Coffee with the Community
Wednesday, May 1, 8:00-9:00 a.m. at Zaney's River Street Coffee House
Your Board of Trustees and Superintendent want to hear from you. No agenda, no presentation, just dialogue over a cup of coffee. Bring your questions and bring your friends. Our monthly coffees are held the first Wednesday of every month from 8:00-9:00 a.m.in various locations throughout Blaine County. This is the last scheduled coffee for the school year. Award Winning Student Writer
Emma Madsen placed third in the Youth division (18 years and younger) for the Idaho Magazine fiction writer's contest.
Emma was 10 when she wrote the story. The story takes place at Hemingway Elementary and on Baldy. Congratulations Emma!

In His Own Words: Hemingway Principal Speaks of BCSD
At the March Regular Board of Trustees meeting, Hemingway Elementary Principal Don Haisley spoke from a personal perspective about his experience in the Blaine County School District.
Addressing the Board, Principal Haisley said, "I have been an educator for 33 years, with the last 20 years having been in Blaine County School District both as a teacher and as a principal. But tonight I'm talking to you as a parent who has had two children who have gone through Blaine County Schools, starting in elementary school and have now gone on to college, graduated and are off in their careers. I want to thank Blaine County for the wonderful programs and opportunities that they have provided to my children."

Student Helps the Advocates with Carpentry for Children
WRHS student Taylor Berntson describes herself as community-minded. "When I was thinking about my Senior Project, I knew I wanted to give back to this community before I left for college." So when she decided to design and build a children's table, she immediately thought of the Advocates. "The Advocates was the prominent organization that I knew of that's helping people in the valley."

Wellness Committee: Volunteers Needed
Residents of the Blaine County School District community are encouraged to apply to participate in the Wellness Policy Committee. Two residents of the district will be selected to participate on the committee. The committee will review and update the Student Wellness Policy.
Residents serving on this committee must be willing to make a one-year commitment and attend approximately three meetings. Please complete the Parent/Community Expression of Interest Form if you would like to be considered. Parent and community involvement is important; we appreciate patrons and community members who volunteer for committees.

BCSD Partner Highlight: No Bullying Allowed! Brown Bag Lunch with St. Luke's

"No Bullying Allowed!"
Within the school setting or the social scene, our kids can face challenges as they learn how to navigate personal relationships. Darrel Harris, youth program coordinator for the Advocates, will cite anti-bullying programs that are research based and getting good results. Darrel will provide tools and wisdom to help adults help kids become bully resistant and learn to use compassion and kindness instead of bully-behavior in peer interactions.
