Kindergarten in BCSD

What happens in a Kindergarten classroom?

Kindergarten is a crucial year in a child's educational journey. Kindergartners have different needs than preschoolers, but Kindergarten is not "first grade made a bit easier." Kindergartners need an educational approach that is developmentally appropriate. They need time to learn from play, choices in their daily routine, and teachers who are responsive to their individual needs. There is a reason Robert Fulghum's book All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten was a best seller.  Hailey Elementary Kindergarten teacher Becca Pierce pictured above.

BCSD Partner Highlight: Footlight Dance and the No More Bullies Project

   No More Bullies

Educators and parents know that students can only grow and thrive in a safe and secure learning environment. Bullying is an on-going year-round topic in the Blaine County School District. Our dedicated school social workers address grade level and age appropriate topics with the goal of encouraging students to be empathetic up-standers rather than by-standers or bullies.

Many partners work with BCSD toward the common goal of ending bullying in the schools. Find out how BCSD partnered with Footlight Dance to energize students and inspire No More Bullies.

Alcohol Awareness Month: Idaho Drug Free Youth

This month is Alcohol Awareness Month. The National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) founded Alcohol Awareness Month in 1987 to "increase public awareness and
understanding aimed at reducing the stigma that too often prevents individuals and families from seeking help." It is the goal of Idaho Drug Free Youth (IDFY) to not only raise awareness about the dangers of alcoholism but also put on a few events in conjunction with the month.
