Tech Blogger Visits Hemingway

Tech blogger Beth Blecherman (a.k.a TechMama) visited Hemingway Elementary last week. She sent this photo of Scott Slonim's tech class to her 24,000 followers on Twitter. Special thanks to parent Lisa Horowitz for coordinating the visit.

"Smoke Test" at Hemingway

Usually smoke is not something a person wants to see in a school building, but on the evening of February 5, smoke was welcome at Hemingway Elementary. The District used a special non-toxic, soap-based material to create the smoke, which was used to evaluate the thermal envelope of the building. The goal is to increase the level of energy efficiency in the building, built in approximately 1969.

This test was in advance of heating, ventilation and cooling improvements that will begin this summer at Hemingway Elementary. To take full advantage of the smoke, the BCSD worked with the Sun Valley and Ketchum Fire Departments to provide a training opportunity for firefighters. Trustee Don Nurge helped coordinate the two entitites. Local firm Vital Spec performed the test.

School Board and Administrators Visit State Legislators in Boise

At the Idaho School Board Assocation's annual Day on the Hill, BCSD Board of Trustees and administrators visited with legislators and attended a House Education Committee meeting. Read more from Board Chairman Steve Guthrie.

Board Chairman Steve Guthrie wrote, "Each year School Board Trustees and District Administrators are given the opportunity to network with State Legislators and School Board members and observe the process of law making. It is critical that districts are represented at this level of government. This year I was accompanied by Blaine County School District (BCSD)Trustee Bates, Superintendent Dr. Lonnie Barber and Assistant Superintendent John Blackman. In addition to individual time with elected officials we attended the Joint House Education & Senate Education Committees Listening Hearing and the House Education Committee Meeting. It is always an honor to represent the very best District in the State of Idaho and one that I am so proud of, Blaine County School District."
