HAY, It's Time for 2 BIG Shows
Bring me your HAY, your CORN SILAGE, and your jars of SEED.
The Vermont Farm Show is coming up right away. We run the Hay and Forage contest and then use the space to set up an educational display to talk with farmers and the general public (thousands of them) about the
important work you do to grow crops and care for your land.
I need your help to build up this part of the Farm Show. We will pick up your entries at the Extension offices if you get them there on Monday morning January 25.

Let's start the new year right with an abundance of Hay, Silage and Grains at the Farm Show. Everyone loves smelling the hay, particularly in the dead of winter! This year the demonstrations will be front and center when you enter the exhibitor arena. It is a great way for us to strike up conversations with folks about forage management, especially if the display is overflowing with samples from Vermont farmers!
Silage & Grains
191) Corn Silage* - 1 quart jar
192) Haylage - Grass* - 1 quart jar
193) Haylage - Legume* - 1 quart jar
194) Round bale Haylage - Baleage - 1 quart jar or Ziploc bag
195) Ground Ear Corn/High Moisture Shell Corn* - 1 quart jar

197) Cereal Grain (wheat/barley/oats/rye)* - 1 quart jar

How: Each entry type has specific Guidelines
When:
Entries must be submitted to the farm show in Essex between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Monday the 25th. Drop off locations around the state have location specific deadlines so please make sure you know the local deadline.
You can drop off products in Middlebury at our office:
23 Pond Lane, Suite 300 before NOON on Monday.

Guest Speakers:- John Kemmeren, a NY dairymen with 40 years of no-till experience on his 200 head dairy farm. He will share successes and challenges of no-till and cover cropping.
- Dr. Kevin Bradley, Associate Professor and Extension weed scientist at the University of Missouri. He will share his perspectives on how cover crops, herbicides, and good weed control can work in a no-till system.
- Odette Menard, a soil conservation honoree and employee in Quebec's Ministry of Agriculture will share her insight into helping farmers identify strategies to build soil health, increase yields, improve economics, and reduce erosion.
