UVM Extension Champlain Valley Crop, Soil & Pasture Newsletter
Champlain Valley Grazing Symposium
Join us Thursday, November 14th, 2013
Where: The Bridport Community Hall, 52 Middle Road, Bridport
When: 10:00 am - 2:30 pm
Cost: $20 includes lunch
Join us as we wrap up this year's grazing season and think ahead to next year!

We'll start the day with an interactive discussion with grazing specialist, Troy Bishopp. Come hear how planned grazing can be both fun and profitable! Troy will go over the how and why of planning and we will look at real-life grazing charts kept this season by local farmers. If you kept a chart this year, be sure to bring it! There are many ways to use this chart resulting in a great visual aid and a helpful tool for your management system.
Troy brings 27 years of on-farm grazing experience through his family's custom grazing operation in central New York, and 8 years of helping farmers make grazing management decisions through his work with the Madison County Soil & Water Conservation District. As the leader of the Northeast SARE project, "Utilizing Holistic Planned Grazing as a Regenerative Engine for Sustainable Agriculture", he will facilitate discussions around the whole-farm grazing planning process.

Julie Smith will be here to discuss troubleshooting and management of common herd health issues including Johne's, BVD, and nutritional deficiencies. Julie's focus is on biosecurity and preventive animal health management.
Julie is an Extension Dairy Specialist based in the Department of Animal Science of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at the University of Vermont. She is currently working on an interdisciplinary project to better prepare farms and communities to implement biosecurity plans. Julie graduated with a BS in Biological Sciences, a DVM, and a PhD in Animal Nutrition from Cornell University.
For planning purposes, please register by November 12th!
