CAP's 2013 Annual Art Auction:
Patron Dinner Nearly Sold Out!

Patrons bidding Interested Parties Should Preview the 2013 CAP Art Auction Offerings in the Online Gallery and Buy Event Tickets Soon!

The art that will be up for auction the evening of April 27, 2013, at the annual Cascade AIDS Project (CAP) Art Auction is now available to be previewed online. The digital art gallery is separated into Live Auction, Curator's Choice, and Silent Auction. More than 240 pieces are up for consideration. This year's gala is once again presented by the Hedinger Family Foundation with Honorary Co-Chairs Ann and Mark Edlen. The digital gallery is located here. Interested parties should buy their tickets soon, as there are only a few Patron Tickets left.

The art in the auction is procured by volunteers and staff from artists, galleries, and collectors. Each year, a curator and a jury are selected from the community. They are reputable experts in the local -- and in some cases, national -- art community. This year's curator is Mr. Lawrence (Larry) Fong, MA, the former associate director and curator of American and Regional Art at the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, University of Oregon. He is responsible for choosing the Live and Curator Choice art works. A separate jury chose the silent auction items, scoring all submissions against a list of criteria established by the auction committee.

"I am very impressed with the quality of Art submitted to the CAP Art Auction," said Larry Fong, MA. "It was a pleasure to see the collection of art and to be able to contribute in a process that helps such a noble cause. A juried show means that buyers can have the added knowledge of a quality purchase beyond their own experience and taste."

Live Auction items will be sold to the highest bidder during the Patron Event. Curator Choice and Silent Auction items will be auctioned during the Grand Event. The Patron event is over 90% sold out, though tickets remain for the Grand Event. Tickets can be purchased at www.capartauction.org. Both portions of the event will be held at the Memorial Coliseum, 300 N Winning Way, in Portland, Oregon. CAP staff will transform the venue from a sports arena to an art gallery and gala concert hall with the help of artists, chefs, collectors, entertainers, over 250 volunteers, and, of course, patrons -- all in an effort to fight HIV/AIDS.

Every year since 1990, CAP has hosted an art auction and dinner to raise money to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and provide services to those infected or affected by HIV in the Northwest. Portland's art community first organized this iconic event and it remains the backbone of the Art Auction today. All funds raised support the vital work of Cascade AIDS Project. Our mission is to prevent HIV infections, support and empower people affected and infected by HIV/AIDS and eliminate HIV/AIDS-related stigma.

In addition to the donated artwork, this event is sponsored by the following individuals and corporations: Hedinger Family Foundation, Nike, Bling Dental, Morel Ink, Mark and Ann Edlen, Anglin Creative, FamilyCare Health Plans, Miller Nash LLP, Wells Fargo, The Standard, Yamhill Valley Vineyards, Bendistillery, KINK 101.9 and Live 95.5.  More information on the event, artists, galleries and sponsors is at www.capartauction.org.

Taylor Dayne - Featured Entertainer

Taylor DayneThanks to a generous gift from Dr. Raymond Frye and Bling Dental, this year's auction will feature the diva sounds of Ms. Taylor Dayne. For many, this performer brings back memories of younger days on the dance floor with colored hair and shoulder pads. For others, her music is a reminder of love lost and love found. Regardless, Ms. Dayne is a performer like no other, bringing her music and talents to the stage of the 2013 CAP Art Auction, joining us in Portland as we fight HIV/AIDS.

Ms. Dayne scored her first major hit in 1987 when her debut single "Tell It to My Heart" reached #7 on the Hot 100. She is known for many other songs, "Love will Lead You Back," "I'll Be Your Shelter," and "With Every Beat of My Heart." Ms. Dayne continues to make music, adding to her repertoire a more recent single, "Change of Heart," the theme song for the movie, "The Help."

Her performance will be heard during the main (Patron) event of the evening.  To hear some of her music, click here. Thank you to Bling Dental for this wonderful gift!

Cascade AIDS Projects' 24th Annual Art Auction is taking place April 27, 2013, and will be attended by over 1,500 of Portland's "movers and shakers." It will be held for the third time at the enormous Memorial Coliseum, where we have more room to enjoy everything: more food, more drink, more entertainment, more art and more opportunities to network! Admission to the Grand Event is usually $100 per person. For young professionals, we are offering a 50% discount -- yes, $50 (this is CAP's actual cost) gets you:
  • Admission to the Grand Event, April 27, 2013 from 7:30-11:30PM
  • Sweet and savory hors d'oeuvres
  • A live performance by Pressure Point
  • A chance to view and bid on 225 pieces of art in silent auction. All art was donated to help fight HIV and AIDS.
  • Only 100 tickets will be offered at this price until April 20.

We are honored by the support of the local art and culinary community, and thrilled that together we will bring to you a gala unlike any other. CAP relies on the Art Auction for almost 10% of its budget. We ask you to support CAP's mission to prevent HIV infections, support and empower people affected and infected by HIV/AIDS, and to eliminate HIV/AIDS-related stigma by attending this important event. We ask that, should you be moved by the great work done at CAP or by the harmful impact HIV has on our community, you consider making a donation toward the effort beyond the cost of the ticket.
