Cascade AIDS Project
Annual Report

This year marks 30 years of HIV/AIDS action by the leaders, staff, and friends of Cascade AIDS Project. Daily, we see the efforts of so many culminate in longer life, stable housing, stronger families, reduced stigma, and fewer HIV infections. Whether a volunteer, a donor, a policymaker, or a parent, we all have a role in this fight.

In 2013, we will continue to expand our HIV testing, reaching deeper into the highest risk populations. We will work to end stigma and support those living with the virus. And we will continue our efforts to educate the wider community that this is a war that is not over, but is one that is winnable. As you read our annual report, we hope you will take note of our strong programs, our strong financial position and our efforts to make expanded services possible through increased fund raising. In 2013, we will look for new opportunities for these trends to continue.

Tax Time: Oregon Charitable Checkoff

Tax season is here, and we realize most folks dread it. But at Cascade AIDS Project (CAP), we are excited because we have worked so hard to secure a place on the Oregon Charitable Checkoff list.  This is the list of charities that have been approved to receive inclusion on the Oregon Tax Form (in rotation), wherein you can dedicate all or part of your Oregon State Tax Refund.

"In 2012, I made a gift of $60 to CAP using the checkoff option," said Michael Sorensen of CAP.  "My return wasn't large, and the money had already been paid so I only felt good about redirecting these funds to CAP and the fight against HIV/AIDS."

In 2012, a total of 224 people made gifts to CAP using the Charitable Checkoff, for a total of $4,951 in gifts. The largest amount received by an approved charity was by the Oregon Food Bank, who received over $165,000 in checkoff gifts.

The checkoff list is an important part of CAP's fundraising plan.  We spent most of 2010 working on our signature gathering and application. The first year, as a write-in choice, we feel we did well.  But we know we have work to do to educate folks of this option and are really looking forward to 2015, when we will be printed on the form.

So, when you do your taxes this year, please add a gift to fight HIV/AIDS by writing in a part of your refund to CAP, charity #28, on line 66a!   You decide the amount and mark it on line 66b, and together we will end AIDS.
