85,000 Visas to Become Available on April 1 for Certain Foreign Nationals With University Degrees or the Equivalent

We hope your belly is full from the holiday feasts and that your goals are in place for 2014.

Speaking of goals, perhaps your New Year's resolution is to decrease the size of your belly through more exercise or eating healthier foods. Or maybe your resolution involves quitting smoking, traveling more, volunteering to help others, or furthering your education.

While those are all noble resolutions, here's one you probably missed:

START PREPARING NOW FOR H-1B SEASON.

Wait...what is an H-1B visa, you ask? The H-1B visa is for certain foreign nationals with university degrees (or the equivalent) who will be working in a "specialty occupation," i.e. a position that normally requires a degree.

Click here to learn more about the H-1B visa.

Whether you are an employer, a foreign national, or a family member or friend of a foreign national who may qualify for H-1B status, it is important to understand the importance of starting the process ASAP.

Each year, we recommend starting the H-1B process as early as possible to ensure you're ready to file by April 1, when 85,000 H-1B visas are released under the annual H-1B "cap." Of that total, 20,000 visas are set aside for individuals with U.S. earned Master's degrees.

Last year, ALL 85,000 visas were used up by April 5, only four days after the visas were released!

Given the improved economy, the H-1B demand will likely be high again this year and the visas could be gone before we know it!

Applicants who do not file their H-1B cases before the cap is reached will have their cases REJECTED.

Feel free to contact our office at 786-406-1744 or [email protected] if you have any questions about the H-1B visa, or about immigration laws in general.
