August in Review
 | Sam Matell, Jessica Burrell and Jessa Lawlor go on the Slip and Slide at Carl and Joyce Hurds House |
August was way too much fun and we are not ready to give up summer yet! In the mornings we did crafts with Kitty, went Berry Picking at Sunshine Berry farm in Rochester (so great you should go!), we visited the Pumpkin Patch Bed and Breakfast and saw where Karissa is from, we delivered Pentangle posters, did crafts with Sarah, gardened with Martha and picnicked at Billings Farm and visited Norman Williams Library.
Mid day we went swimming at the Kedron Pond and Silver Lake, we visited Carl and Joyce Hurds house for our 4th annual slip and slide day, we enjoyed the brown bag concerts in the park, went riding at Moonrise Farm, we did art with Fiona, we played mini golf and ate ice cream at 4U Golf, we celebrated a lot of August birthdays, we started working on a new cookbook with Kate Miller, we visited the Hood Musuem, did fitness with Bari and WE HIKED TO THE POGUE FROM PROSPER ROAD! NO KIDDING ALL OF US! We were so impressed with ourselves that we formed the Zack's Place Hiking Club!
In the afternoons we sang with Kerry, did yoga with Tita and Anne, we sang on the Green with Papa and Bonbon, we did art with Fiona, visited the weekly market on the Green, we read books with Anthea, Phil, Tom, Pam and Ron.

Time to Register for the Zack's Place Turkey Trot! Zack's Place 2014 Thanksgiving Day November 27, 2014 Turkey Trot Run/Walk RegistrationThe Zack's Place Turkey Trot, a 5K run and walk held on Thanksgiving Day, was first established in 2007, and has become a dependable annual fundraiser ever since. In 2007, almost 200 people participated. In 2013, over 1,100 people participated and raised $47,000. All of the proceeds of the race are dedicated to our operational costs. As participants line up and register for the race they are entertained by a band on a flatbed truck. Hot coffee, tea and hot chocolate are offered. The race begins in front of the Woodstock Elementary School at 10:00 AM, with the more skilled runners in front and the rest following. The run meanders through the historic Village of Woodstock, then on towards Billings Farm, around Mountain Avenue, and back around The Town Green, ending at the starting line. An award ceremony, also with refreshments and a band, follows the race where medals are presented. Families run together as college kids and relatives gather for the Thanksgiving celebration. Grandparents and young children in carriages participate as walkers, dogs join in as well. It has become a tradition for many in the Woodstock area; however we also have "satellite participants" who cannot be in Woodstock but who run with family wherever they are: Hawaii, Italy, New York City, etc. This is indeed a day of thanks where individuals help support our enrichment center and give thanks for their own gifts at the same time. Runner entry fee is $25.00 if paid by check or $27.50 to pay onlineClick Here to register for the Zack's Place Turkey Trot |
