Simon's Corner
Wowzers!! Simon has a long list of Hole in One alerts for some of our regular Greenacres golfers! It was definitely a busy August...

Starting on Monday, August 5th, Jun Nicdao celebrated hit his first career ace on Hole #15 when he purely struck a 6 iron and watched it roll into the hole. Nilo Katipunan and Jun Arce witnessed the event and rumour has it they are still owed their post Hole in One round of drinks!
Then on Thursday, August 22nd on Hole #15, using a 7 iron, Linda Amano hit it true and with just a single stroke, watched her beautiful tee shot bounce once, check on the green and roll gently into the cup for an incredible second career ace.
The very next day, on Friday August 23rd, also on Hole #15, Laura Byrne scored her first ace with a sharp, piercing shot that fell into the hole.
And finally, Edith Lay, a member of our very own Greenacres Tuesday Ladies club, aced the 90 yard 3rd Hole at the University Golf Course during the British Columbia Golf Zone 4 Women's Division (Greater Vancouver Region) 2013 Senior Women's Tournament held on Monday, August 26th.
Congratulations to all the golfers who "aced it" in August!

"I am told that a pearl is produced only through the pearl-oyster's enduring the pain of having a grain of sand bore into its flesh, fighting against it, and protecting itself against it. We, also, by fighting all kinds of difficulties and overcoming them, strive to develop the jewel of spiritual cultivation."
-Isshu Miura & Ruth Fuller Sasaki | The Zen Koan
It takes a great deal more than a good swing to get consistently around the golf course in good figures. A good part of the game is mental; meaning that judgement based on thought and experience are necessary. And that can become even more evident as course conditions change based on weather related factors.

So, how do you get to know what to do when conditions aren't perfect? How do you react when the rain comes and it gets a little cooler? How can you take pleasure in the tough grind that makes you a better player?
Click here to find out more about why playing in difficult conditions can become the part of the game we need to polish the jewels inside all of us.
Golfingly,
The Whip

With their Club Championship as well as the BC Golf Zone 4 Senior Women`s Tournament being held in August, the Greenacres Tuesday Ladies had a very busy month.
The Club Championship was played over two Tuesdays in August and a repeat champion emerged, as Genevieve Chin was the Low Gross winner, followed by Mitsuko Kawata who was 2nd Low Gross. Congratulations to Genevieve on back to back Club Championships! The Low Net winner was Lesley Lim. With a full field for this years competition and everyone competing hard, it certainly was an enjoyable tournament!
More exciting news this month as some of our ladies enjoyed the Zone 4 Senior Women's Tournament played at UBC on Monday Aug 26th. The Tuesday Ladies competed well with medalists in a few divisions. Also, our own Edith Lay (not so) quietly scored a Hole in One at the tournament! Congratulations to all the medalists and to Edith for a great day. What a way to have the Greenacres name better known in the golf news!
As the excellent weather continues into the fall, it is exciting to see the ladies playing some great golf. Time to take a bit of a break from the heavier competitive schedule and just enjoy the balance of the fun games in the ladies club. So be sure to head out and enjoy the Fall golf days!
