November 20, 2014
We are situated in Portsmouth's West End neighborhood, at 909 Islington Street. Every third Thursday evening of the month, West End businesses invite the community to get to know them better by hosting open houses. Why not include touring through the area in your plans this evening--any time between 5:00 and 9:00 p.m? We are participating tonight, offering station tours. This month we welcome a new co-coordinator of volunteers, we launch the newest additions to our overnight broadcasts and we continue to update you on current programming. Scurvy Dog Radio had a great write-up, locally, so check that out, too. Our full team of DJs, Show Hosts and the myriad of behind-the-scenes volunteers continues to contribute endless energy to bring non-commercial radio to the local community. Enjoy mingling with them at our upcoming annual gathering on December 2.

Rock Music Lovers Mark and Vivian are Scurvy Dog Radio
|
Scurvy Dog Radio was featured in Sunday's Portsmouth Herald/Seacoastonline.com. Hosts Mark and Vivian Lefebvre truly enjoy their radio stint together, every Saturday, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Stephanie S. Lazenby wrote "Mark and Vivian Lefebvre, a husband-and-wife team, have found their niche at Portsmouth's community radio, WCSA. The hosts of the "Scurvy Dog" show have been at the station for almost two years, and together for 30."
 | | Mark Lefebvre, guest Kurt Baker, and Vivian Lefebvre |
Mark said "Doing this show is fantastic. Sharing it with Vivian is even better. Sometimes I think our on-air banter is a cross between the Cramdens (from 'The Honeymooners') meets 'Wayne's World.'" He added, "I wouldn't want to be anywhere else. I can play a diverse mix of music - that I have total control over choosing - and many of them are local bands. It's the greatest. I love it here."

By Steve Diamond, WSCA Systems Administrator
Probably the most exciting technical development this past month has been the implementation of various Public Affairs automation within OTS (the automated DJ computer). I've been meeting with Meg--of the Programming Committee--to work out details in recent weeks. While more tweaks will no doubt be ongoing, playback of late-night public affairs podcasts is now in place! Automatic rebroadcasting of our own public affairs shows is also a possibility. Weeknights, starting at 1:00 a.m., shows such as The Thom Hartmann Program, The David Pakman Show, and Between the Lines will air throughout the night. Radio Ecoshock is also airing on Fridays at 6:00 p.m. Money Matters, Drug War News, Free Speech Radio News and various other content are planned. Details of scheduling and rotations are being finalized. If you are not a night-owl, check out these excellent programs from our archives or directly from the RSS feeds of those producers. The EAS (Emergency Alert System) had some issues, but the always watchful eye of John Lovering discovered it and together we quickly found the loose wire. I'll be repositioning a few things to avoid it from getting pulled on again. Many thanks to John for his steady vigilance!
