Spirit Radio - the Paranormal Experience Turns One!

Spirit Radio - the Paranormal Experience will be celebrating one year on the air at WSCA on October 4th. Hosts Willy Hassell and Lynne Nickerson would like to thank Portsmouth Community radio for giving them the opportunity to make their dream a reality. A special  anniversary show airs Saturday, October 4, 9:00 to 10:00 p.m., with a very special guest and their good friend Sal Nicosia, owner and operator of the haunted Shanley Hotel in Napanoch, NY.

During their first year, Willy and Lynne were fortunate to have many amazing guests from all fields of the paranormal, and from around the world. They've garnered an international listening audience that includes 34 countries worldwide, with a large following in the UK. They express their great pleasure being part of Portsmouth Community Radio and are looking forward to the station and the show's bright futures.

WSCA Hosts LIVE Music Marathon Sunday, October 12
The WSCA Live Music Marathon returns on Sunday, October 12, from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

We will have 20 performers over 12 hours of live performances! Come to the station and enjoy a very full day of live music.

True Tales Radio Anniversary Program Available via Archives
As expressed by Steve Diamond:
"If you haven't heard the 10th anniversary True Tales episode (archived under "Audio Theatre") it really was an extraordinary look at where Portsmouth Community Radio has come from and where we're going. Jean P. shared memories of the extraordinary human being and force of volunteerism here that was Terry Blake, who we lost too soon.

I also fondly remembered Stanley Longstaff, who worked with me, Amy and Brian Gregg on the Making Waves show in the early days. Stanley and his partner Shannon were quite an example of supporting each other publicly through their struggles with cancer. Even when facing death, they showed how to live. There were also a lot of other fun and meaningful stories."

The links to the audio are on the home page of the website, including the overflow stories.
Technical Tidings

By Steve Diamond, WSCA Systems Administrator

This past month brought some incremental improvements around the station in a variety of areas. I believe wireless Internet is finally stable again, which concludes the transition to a less bulky and power-consuming router. I'm closing in on determining the source of occasional Internet outages that last a few minutes. Equipment organizing in the office and back room continues. Further adjustments and syndicated content for OTS continue, with a lot more anticipated.

Gordon and I recently cleaned all the CD decks in CR-A. We've also made good progress towards bringing the remote broadcast codec back online. Hopefully by the time you read this or at least shortly thereafter, we'll be ready to transition to a revamped website. Rick Pickford did most of the heavy lifting there, and I'll be finishing up some details soon. Everything might not be perfect on it from the moment we go online, but the basics should all be there.

I'm also finishing up automatic podcast feeds ("RSS / XML") for each Public Affairs show. That means that anyone with a podcasting device (from a computer to an iPod to an inexpensive mp3 player), an Internet connection, and free podcast aggregator software (like iTunes or Juice) should be able to automatically receive the latest episode of whatever shows they subscribe to. Please do give it a try and let me know how it works for you!

As always, please do let me know when or if you discover something not working correctly.
