January 23, 2014

Greetings WSCA friends!

The new year has already featured both frigid temperatures and rather balmy days. Kind of like a roller coaster, in terms of highs and lows. One thing that remains constant is our Tidings delivery to you! With a revamped editorial team of familiar voices, we are eager to bring you the latest Portsmouth Community Radio news and events.

This month features in-studio "true" storytelling, Celtic music, a tribute to Phil Everly, big bands, an invitation to party with us and more.

Grab a hot cup of something and read on. Then set your reminder alarms so you don't miss your favorites...

True Tales Radio Debuts January 28 on Audio Theatre

John Lovering, host of Audio Theatre, is pleased to announce a full cast of seven storytellers for the premiere of True Tales Radio, on Tuesday, January 28, from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.

He invites anyone interested in seeing the show live, to be at the station no later than 6:15 p.m. There will be approximately 30 seats and some standing room available for the guest audience. There is no admission charge.

Each Storyteller has 10 minutes to tell their "True" story during this live broadcast. Storytellers include: Lynne Nickerson, Lucas Perry, Nelson Linscott, Dee Hebert, Cathy Wolff, Pat Spalding and Sharon Rhodes. The theme is "Beginnings," and John promises a very diverse and entertaining group of stories.

Don't miss this inaugural show of what we expect to become an integral part of the Audio Theatre schedule on the last Tuesday of each month. Our goal is to directly involve additional community members into our station, and we think "storytelling" is a great step forward in accomplishing this goal.

Any individual, business, or non-profit interested in underwriting True Tales Radio for only $50 per month should contact John at the email address below. Underwriting will include two on-air mentions and a listing in our printed show program. More options are available at additional cost.

Hurry... sign-ups for the February 25 True Tales Radio broadcast have already begun. The theme for February is "Dating-Love-Relationships." For more information on becoming one of our Storytellers, email John at truetales@wscafm.org.

Hear the Big Bands, Mondays at 8:00 P.M.
Tune in to WSCA-LP 106.1 FM Portsmouth on the first Monday of each month from 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. for the Seacoast's only Big Band show, "Under the Radar - Big Band Mondays." Since February 2010, your host Steve has been playing the hits, near misses, and any and all types of big band music from one of the greatest eras in American music.

The upcoming show, Monday, February 3, is a special one. You'll not only get a taste of strictly instrumental big band music, but it will be of the "live" variety. Whether by live concert recordings, V-discs, or radio transcriptions, you're sure to be tapping your toes for a solid two hours!!

Steve will cover the greats such as Duke Ellington, Artie Shaw, and Bob Crosby, as well as some of the not-so-greats such as Tiny Hill and Art Kassel and his Kassel in the Sky Orchestra.

So jump-jive and wail with the Big Bands the first Monday of each month on WSCA 106.1 FM, 8:00 to 10:00 p.m. And don't forget to circle the date of February 3, for another special all-live instrumental, three year anniversary show of Under the Radar, Big Band.

Follow on Facebook.

And remember, 'Steve, loves you madly'.

Snowstorm Snatches Sales -- Dance Funds Fall Short
Thanks to all who turned out to Saturday's fundraiser dance. The Jeannie Daniels Band was in great form and those in attendance had a blast, but the storm kept many people at home, reducing ticket sales. Despite the band graciously donating their talent, we still had expenses associated with the event. If you planned to attend, but were unable to, please consider making a $10 donation. On our secure website you can click the "Join Now" button and select the amount of your donation. Thank you, from all those who volunteered their time and effort to make the dance happen!

Thank You, Jeannie Daniels Band! Your Continued Support of Portsmouth Community Radio Is Very Much Appreciated!
