Hello WSCA Friends,

Happy Holidays!

Not only is this issue full of exciting seasonal radio shows, it is also chock full of ways for you to get involved and become a part of the WSCA family! If nothing else, why not pick up the phone this season and give us a call us at 603-430-9722 to request your favorite winter melody?

We look forward to hearing from you!

Julien Aklei

The Return of Friday Night Hoops!
WSCA is proud to continue our tradition of broadcasting Portsmouth High School basketball games! This season began on December 13th with the girls' game against Pelham, and will continue until the boys' game against Souhegan on February 28th.

Veteran Seacoast sportscaster Sam Bruno, the "Voice of the Seacoast Mavericks,"  will deliver play-by-play for the girls' game against Pelham and Oyster River, and the rest will be reported by WSCA's own Charlie Griffin.

If you are a basketball lover, be sure to mark your calender!

When Ghosts Walked the Earth...
Did you know that before the days of television, it was a Christmas tradition for many families to gather around the radio each year and listen to Charles Dickens' classic tale A Christmas Carol?

This Christmas Eve, from 6-8pm, John Lovering keeps the tradition alive by broadcasting the most celebrated version of this beloved story, as first performed by Orson Welles and Lionel Barrymore on December 24th, 1939. He encourages you to gather up some cozy blankets, hot chocolate, light a fire, and start a tradition of your own!

Can you help this antenna?

As you may know, WSCA's signal has been getting disrupted by 106.1 in Newburyport MA. However, we have recently asked them to tweak their broadcast antenna and allow us to maintain our coverage area. Initial reports show that the signal which had been squashing us to the south at exit 3 is no longer doing so, and our coverage now stretches closer to the Hampton tolls again.

We still need to evaluate the health of our simple 10 year old antenna sitting on top of the Music Hall. We need to begin looking for a long term location for our antenna. If anyone would like to help us with access to a new site or the financial resources needed to make the change, please contact Rick Pickford at rickpick@gmail.com.

Money and More...
WSCA wants to thank everyone who contributed their time and resources to our
Harvest the Power of Community Fall FundraiserIt was a fun and festive week, although we only raised approximately a third of our goal of $20,000. If you would like to give and haven't done so yet, it's not too late- you can mail in a check or give online today!

But if money is tight, consider helping in other ways- perhaps you could spread the word and make sure all your family and friends are aware of WSCA's existence. Or perhaps you could help by being a guest on one of our shows. After all, it is YOUR voice that makes us a true community station!

Laugh Factory Seeks Friends!
Chuck Curtis, host of The Laugh Factoryis looking for local people to interview! You can choose from over 20 topics to discuss such as "My worst job ever," "My most embarrassing moment," and "My biggest surprise." Contact Chuck at ccurtis@wscafm.org for full details.

This is a fun opportunity to share your stories and help us put the "community" back in community radio!

True Tales Radio Needs Your Stories!
We all have stories to tell, and John Lovering, host of Audio Theatre, wants us to share them. On the last Tuesday of every month, from 6-8pm, he will be presenting True Tales Radio, an opportunity for local people to step up to the microphone and tell a true story. Each month there will be a different theme, beginning with "Beginnings" on January 28th.

Stories can run the gamut from hilarious, to tear jerkers, to downright boring. It can be scary to talk about ourselves, but why not take that chance? With sunlight in low supply, maybe a shot of adrenaline is just what you need to shake the winter blues.

If you are interested in participating, contact John at truetales@wscafm.org. He looks forward to hearing from you!
