Jen Chapin Benefit Concert for WSCA

Shawn Henderson, host of the always excellent Stay Tuned and Live Stay Tuned, airing Friday afternoons from 1:30-5 pm has a big new project in the works (what . . . another new project?). Joe and Lorna Simes of the new venue Red & Shorty's in Dover will be handing over their space to Shawn once a month for a series of concerts Shawn is producing.

First up:  Singer/Songwriter Jen Chapin, Friday, August 23 at 8 pm. She's the daughter of the late Harry Chapin and a fine musician in her own right. And she's coming to Dover to promote her CD, Reckoning, a new collection of original songs. Jen's music is a distinctive blend of urban folk/jazz/pop storytelling and deals with the challenge of balancing creative ambitions with the immediate demands of mothering small children--combined with a good dose of social commentary.

"Jen Chapin faces her 'Reckoning' [with] her lush new recording which blends elements of jazz, folk and rock..." Los Angeles Times

For more on Jen, check out her video and commentary for her song Go Away.

Tickets are $20 and are expected to sell out quickly (the room only seats 35).  To reserve your seat, go to the event Facebook page.

100% of the proceeds will go directly to the station. Thanks so much to Jen, Joe and Lorna, and to Shawn.

Shawn is already booking other artists for his series, so stay tuned.

Listen to Portsmouth Listens

The only thing hotter than the weather is the controversy about what to do about transportation in Portsmouth. The only thing everyone seems to agree with is that something must be done.

On July 17th the Portsmouth Herald's Chuck McMahon and WSCA's Charlie Griffin sat down with Jeffrey Cooper and Greg Spaulding of Portsmouth Listens to discuss the findings and recommendations of their recently concluded Study Circles to determine the characteristics of a sustainable transportation system for Portsmouth.

L to R: Gregory  Spaulding, Jeffrey Cooper, Charlie Griffin, and
Chuck McMahon.

Be sure to check it out.  The show is archived, click here to go to our archive page, then scroll down to WSCA_07-17-2013_11-00.m3u and click on it to listen.
