Hello WSCA Friends,
We want to send out a big thank you to all of our loyal listeners who renewed or became new members during our 7-day Seed The Power Membership Drive earlier this month. Local businesses really stepped up, too, in renewing their underwriting, providing daily premiums, keeping us fed, and coming in to join us on our shows.
We are an all volunteer station and we bring you local broadcasting you won't find anywhere else on your radio dial, seven days a week, 24 hours a day. As you know, even a lean station budget still must pay for equipment, licensing fees, rent, utilities, etc. So if you've already made your donation, we thank you. And if you haven't yet, we urge you to please pop it in the mail today. And tune in to your favorite programming, right here on Portsmouth Community Radio (WSCA-LP 106.1FM).

Problems Finding WSCA On Your Radio? We Need Your Feedback!
|
|
Are you having trouble getting clear reception from 106.1FM on your radio at home, work or in your car? Have you noticed a change in WSCA's signal over the past year? Are other radio stations interfering with the signal?
We need to know when and where you are having difficulty listening to WSCA on your radio. When WSCA went on the air in 2004, there was a saying that the gateways to Portsmouth Community Radio were the Hampton, Rochester, and York tolls. These were locations where WSCA's signal started to come in strong driving toward Portsmouth. We've had listener reports from as far away as Nottingham, Kingston and Amesbury. Over the past ten years the radio dial has gotten a bit more crowded and other stations interfering with WSCA's signal appears to be a growing problem. If you have noticed a change in WSCA's signal or other stations interfering with the signal, either in your car, work, or home, let us know. Please email the details (changes, when, where, interfering stations, etc.) to tstone@wscafm.org or call 603-498-0591. The more listener feedback we receive, the greater the chance we can improve WSCA's signal in problem areas. And as always, thanks for listening.

The Science of Beer, led by Steve Parkes, was the last topic of the Science Cafe recorded live at the Portsmouth Brewery on May 8. As the owner and lead instructor of the American Brewers Guild, Steve Parkes has been training aspiring and current craft brewers in the science and engineering of brewing since 1997. A UK native and graduate of the prestigious International Centre for Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland, Mr. Parkes has overseen successful breweries on both sides of the Atlantic, including his current venture, Drop In Brewing Company in Middlebury, VT, which also serves as the Guild's teaching facility. In 2009, Steve was awarded one of the highest honors in the craft brewing industry, the Russell Scherer Award for Innovation in Craft Brewing.
Portsmouth's Community Radio, WSCA 106.1 FM, records each event for replay. The Science of Beer will be broadcast Tuesday, May 28th from 9-10 AM on The Environmental Show, with Tim Stone and Judy Matthews.
The Portsmouth Science Café provides a unique chance for members of the public to learn about and discuss issues in contemporary science from scientists in the relaxed atmosphere of a pub. The Science Café is free and open to all.

Tune in on Monday June 3rd, from 8-10 PM, for the Seacoast's only Big Band show-Under the Radar-Big Band Mondays with Steve.
He is a songwriter extraordinaire. Some 900 songs are attributed to him. His estate continues to earn in excess of $3million per year. Do the songs "I've Got You Under My Skin", "Night and Day" and even "Don't Fence Me In" sound familiar? They were all written by the featured artist on the next show, Cole Porter. During this annual event, Steve will be utilizing many vocal artists who performed songs by Mr. Porter during the Big Band era as well as different versions of Porter classics rarely heard on the airwaves, as Steve celebrates Mr. Porter's birthday.
If you have a big band request of any kind or just want to chat, you can e-mail Steve and the Under the Radar-BIG BAND Show at wscautr@yahoo.com.
And remember, as Steve says, "He loves you madly"....................
