It's Not Too Early to Think About Barbecue (Really)

Soon it will be spring (no kidding!), which means that Ag Field Day and Rutgers Day won't be far behind. To celebrate, Executive Dean Bob Goodman invites alumni and their families to the Third Annual "Let's Do Lunch with the Executive Dean" on Saturday, April 25, 2015, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

This popular "garden party" will take place under a festive tent on the lawn of Jameson Quad, adjacent to the charming Cooper Dining Hall. (In case of bad weather, we'll move inside Cooper.) All alumni from the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences and its predecessors are welcome, along with their spouses/partners and children. Also invited are retired faculty and their families. Traditional barbecue fare and beverages will be served. Come to catch up with friends and favorite faculty, to meet some of our students, and to enjoy some great food and fun. Register today.

Calling Washington and Baltimore Alumni and Friends

Big Ten Reception Banner
It's not too late to register for two very special evenings in Washington and Baltimore next week. The first is the Big Ten Ag Alumni Reception from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at the National Press Club in Washington. This will be the third year that Rutgers has participated in this great networking occasion. Visit the Discovery website for more information and a link to registration.

The next night, on Wednesday, March 4, 2015, faculty and students from the Underwater glider Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences will be on hand at the National Aquarium on Baltimore's Inner Harbor from 7 to 10:30 p.m. to celebrate RU 27 ("Scarlet Knight"), the underwater glider that traversed the Atlantic Ocean to gather vital data on sea conditions. The National Aquarium will be open exclusively for this event. More details are posted on the Discovery website.

Sponsorship Deadline Looms for Rutgers 250 Book

Rutgers 250 book. "Rutgers: A 250th Anniversary Portrait," a four-color, 300-page commemorative book hailing the "sestercentennial" of Rutgers' founding in 1766 is still available until March 1, 2015 for pre-purchase at a reduced price of $50 plus shipping. Pre-purchase entitles alumni, faculty, staff and friends to have their names included in the hardcover edition, enabling them to see their names printed in the book for posterity.

After March 1, sponsorship is no longer available. To learn more about the book and the sponsorship offer, visit RU250.com/book.
'Experience Rutgers' with President Barchi

Join University President Robert Barchi and three acclaimed researchers from the Department of Marine and Coastal Sciences for "Experience Rutgers," a series of informal armchair discussions. The panels, which will focus on climate change, will take place in three cities in March and April - on March 11, 2015 at the JW Marriott Essex House in New York City; on March 19 at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia; and on April 21 at the JW Marriott in Washington, D.C. The events start at 6 p.m. and include a reception, networking opportunities and discussion followed by Q & A.

The featured faculty are three individuals whose work has made headlines in the U.S. and internationally. They are Jennifer Francis (Arctic research), Scott Glenn (ocean observing programs), and Benjamin Horton (sea-level change). President Barchi will moderate the discussions.

These events, organized by Rutgers University Alumni Association, are free and open to all alumni and friends. Further information and registration are available on the RUAA website.
How Will You Be Affected By Climate Change?

Speaking of climate change, on Friday, April 10, 2015, Rutgers is hosting a one-day symposium, beginning at 8:30 a.m. at the College Avenue Student Center's Multipurpose Room. Featuring scientists and experts on climate change, the program will examine who is likely to be affected by a changing climate and related disasters, in what ways they will be most vulnerable, and how those vulnerabilities can be addressed through social actions, including policies and planning. Several departments and institutes across the University, including the Department of Human Ecology of the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, are sponsoring the event.

"Global Climate Change and Inequality" is open to the public and is free of charge. However, registration is strongly suggested. Further information is available on the symposium website, along with a link to registration.
