May 2014
Enjoy a World of Discovery at Rutgers Gardens

Rutgers Gardens in bloom Rutgers Gardens is alive year-round with flora and fun, but starting in May it really shows its stuff, and activities abound. For instance, May 9 to 11, 2014, (Mother's Day Weekend) come to the Gardens for the Spring Flower Fair and Ultimate Plant Sale. In addition to touring the Gardens, guests will be able to purchase plants ranging from trees and shrubs to ornamentals, vegetable and food plants and even rare varieties. May also marks the beginning of this season's Farmers Market at the Gardens, which runs every Friday from May 2 to well into the fall. Many educational programs fill the May calendar as well, from Gardens "walks" and "talks" to classes covering landscape design and special planting techniques. Visit the Gardens calendar for a complete listing.

Rush Holt: Coming to Energy Symposium, Convocation

Congressman Rush D. Holt, Jr., will be among the participants at the Ninth Annual
Rush Holt
Rep. Rush D. Holt, Jr.
Energy Symposium on Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at the Fiber Optics Auditorium on the Busch Campus. The symposium runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will feature speakers from academia, business and government. The event is free, but registration is required.

Holt's appearance, which was announced just days ago, is especially appropriate, as he is the ranking member on the House Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources of the Committee on Natural Resources. He has been an outspoken advocate of alternative energy sources and is a past assistant director of the Princeton (University) Plasma Physics Laboratory.

Holt also has visited the G.H. Cook Campus on various occasions, and will be back on Monday, May 19, 2014, at 10 a.m., where he will speak at the 2014 Convocation of the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. Again, an especially appropriate appearance, as he also is a member of the House Committee on Education and the Workforce.
