SESSHIN:
DZC Weekend Retreat

October 11th, 12th & 13th
Sesshin:  A silent, formal retreat, focusing on meditation:   zazen (seated), kinhin (walking), and samu (working).
Basic meditation instruction provided Friday evening.

Daily chanting Services, formal silent meals and
opportunity for dokusan (formal interviews with Roshi).

Arrive
early Friday evening to be ready to begin at 8:00 p.m. with the opening ceremony and instruction in the Dharma Hall.*  Plan to attend the entire retreat,** staying over at DZC on Friday and Saturday nights.  Retreat ends on Sunday after our regular Service, which is followed by a potluck luncheon.

What to Bring: sleeping bag/bedding, towels and personal toiletries, loose comfortable clothes (including work clothes, shoes, hat, and gloves).  Avoid jeans, hoodies or attention-catching clothing.  Weather is variable in the desert;
it may be quite warm during the day, but cold at night.  Breathable layers are a good choice.

Please do not bring alcohol, non-prescription drugs, reading material or electronic devices (Cell phones, watches, etc., may be left in your car -- plan to concentrate on the retreat, rather than the wide, wide world).

Formal, ample vegetarian meals are provided.  Please advise in advance of dietary restrictions.  Unless there are medical issues, do not bring snacks or treats.

Cost: DZC does not charge for retreats.
That said,
while our tenzo is talented, thrifty and inspired
-- we eat very well, thank you --
retreats do incur expenses.
Donations are most gratefully received
.
Please RSVP to Roshi or Su Co ASAP

Apologies & Promises

Regrets that this newsletter is considerably shorter and less engaging than usual.  Thanks to the wonders of technology,
a few valid excuses, and some questionable occurrences, the recent past has been a continuing exercise in letting go of attachments to accomplishments, views, goals and deadlines.
A second October newsletter will follow next week with reports on our recent activities and will include Thay Minh Nhat's latest column on Loving Kindness.

(Rumor also has it that the website also will be updated with talks and photos, but let's not tempt the gods of technology... )

Thank you for your patience & continuing interest in our Center.  May you be well, happy, peaceful & free from suffering.
