Bread & Roses Receives $10,000

Award from Bank of the West

Bread & Roses was one of nine nonprofits to be recognized at the Bank of the West's Fourth Annual Philanthropy Awards.  As a finalist for a Community Impact award, we received $10,000 on October 22 in San Francisco. We are especially proud to have received this grant as we understand we were one of 300 nonprofit organizations across the Bank's 17-state service area to be considered. Click here to read the full story on our blog, and check out the amazing Bread & Roses video with Mark Hummell that Bank of the West created as a part of this award!

Save The Date! Saturday March 1 for Spectacular 40th Anniversary Event

Bread & Roses will celebrate its 40th anniversary (1974-2014) with a very special fundraising event: a dinner and live auction at the Marin Civic Center Exhibit Hall & concert at Showcase Theatre.  Mark your calendars now and stay tuned for more info!  Help us Go On With the Show and ensure that our high-touch mission lives long into our high-tech future where one in three people are likely to be institutionalized at some point in their lives and in need of the healing power of live music.

The 40th anniversary is known as the Ruby Anniversary because rubies are thought to possess an eternal inner flame, a symbol that the passion in our mission is still alive and strong after 40 years. This passion is evident in the extraordinary combination of people who help create and sustain Bread & Roses. In 1974, our founder Mimi Fariña gathered a small group of performer friends to bring music to people in a few facilities.  Bread & Roses now serves over 30,000 audience members annually. Support from you and the communities we serve is critical to our continued success. We thank you for your generosity and positive spirit.

Susan Gordon Joins Bread & Roses Staff As Development Director

Susan Gordon has joined our staff as Development Director.  A resident of Mill Valley, she comes to Bread & Roses with recent arts/nonprofit experience as Development Manager at the Marin Theatre Company.  Of her new job Susan says, "The energy and enthusiasm of Bread & Roses is contagious. I am honored and thrilled to be part of such an amazing, talented and dedicated team, and look forward to making all things possible for Bread & Roses.  As Plato said, 'Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything."'

Farewell to Elizabeth Share who served as Bread & Roses Development Director for over a decade and has gone on as foundation grants director at the Center for Investigative Reporting in Berkeley. We also extend our gratitude to Mary Doan who acted as the Interim Development Director. We miss you both!
