Who Am I?
My place of birth was:
St. Vincent's Hospital, Toledo Ohio. Born on a Sunday at 1:19 a.m. in the morning.
My hobbies are: Reading, Gardening, Volunteer Work, and Adoration of the Eucharist, The Rosary, and Writing a Book.
The last good book I read was:
The Art of An Apology: How, when, and why to give and accept apologies by Lauren M. Bloom, J.D.
My oddest habit is: I need to have some type of noise when I am home alone, usually the television. Device I couldn't live without: Laptop Computer
Family:
Terry and I have been married 40+ years and have three grown children (2 daughters 1 son) and six grandchildren (3 boys 3 girls). We were high school sweethearts. He has five brothers and 1 sister and I have 5 sisters and 1 brother. We are both the middle child thus we know how to compromise a lot.
Previous Jobs and Positions:
The University of Toledo for 30 years in a variety of positions in The College of Engineering. When I retired I was Director of Professional Education and Industry Relations. I have also been a Catholic School Principal and School Board Member. I have volunteered my entire life and it has led to some amazing experiences and people.
My greatest accomplishment outside my profession:
Receiving my doctorate in higher education in honor of my mother and having the University read her name in memory. My mother gave up a full ride to the University of Michigan for voice to support my grandmother who was a widow at age 37 with 9 children and 1 on the way! My mother died at age 47 when I was 22. She was and will continue to be the most influential person in my life.
The reason I got into advertising/marketing:
It is important to advertise and market products or services to consumers in a trustworthy, honest and appealing way. Honesty and truth are your best reputation builders.
Biggest influences on me professionally:
My parents both had amazing work ethics.
My greatest unfulfilled ambition is:
Finish writing my book.
When nobody's looking, I like to:
Pray, sing and eat potato chips and drink diet coke!
The one thing I really want the world to know about me:
I am a Christian (Catholic) who starts each day praying that I remain humble and always in service to others. I am highly sensitive to others feelings and emotions. Growing up I wanted to be a nun, teach English and Music. I spent a little while at a convent but then I moved to another parish and life has a way of changing. I did teach English at UT and was a Catholic School principal but obviously being a nun never happened.
Best piece of advice:
FIND BALANCE IN YOUR LIFE, AND REMEMBER YOU ARE NOT THE ONE STEERING THE SHIP GOD IS!
Best thing about being an AAF Toledo member:
Love meeting all the young people in the group and hearing their ideas! The world of marketing and advertising is in good hands!!
I am: Dr. Christine M. Smallman

"The key is not to prioritize what's on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities." - Stephen R Covey
I decided to reuse the quote I started with in our July 2015 newsletter, because it seems so fitting as I wrap up my term as AAF Toledo President this month. Looking back over the year, I feel we really scheduled our priorities well. We had a lot of activities, a lot of fun, and learned a tremendous amount in the process. AdBASH, AdBID, ADDYs, AdHOLE, AdPIN, Creativity & Innovation Summit, Monthly Luncheon Program, Our Favorite Things, and so much more. We're looking forward to another great year.
Join us for our next luncheon on June 15th where I will be passing the gavel to Matt Rubin. I know the future of the organization is in good hands with Matt and I am excited to watch as he leads us forward over the next 12 months. Thank you for having been a part of the 2015-2016 AAF Toledo membership year. With our amazing membership and board of governors working hard to improve your membership experience, we felt this was a great year.
Thank you!
2015-2016 AAF Toledo President

Company Profile ~ Jupmode
|

Make no mistake about it, you should be picky about your t-shirt. You have the right to wear something that feels good, something that shows your style, and starts a conversation. JUPMODE is proud to offer you apparel that tells a story, reminds you of a special local business, or commemorates a time-honored tradition.
Based in Toledo, Ohio, our company's goal has always been to create and foster a pride in the city of Toledo by remembering our past and highlighting the new wave of excitement happening today. We want people to remember the hard work that people before us have poured into the city - from Toledo's greatest mayor of all time Samuel "Golden Rule" Jones to Joseph Murphy who wrote the song "We're Strong for Toledo". We like digging into the history of the city, finding vintage designs while also coming up with new and trendy designs that make representing the four one nine feel current. No matter what your connection is to Toledo, we want people to feel proud of this city and give you a way to show off that pride. We believe that by doing better for the city of Toledo, more people can do better in the city of Toledo. We print all of our own apparel in house which gives us a connection to our products that not a lot of other brands have. We are always trying new print methods and inks to deliver a product of the highest quality with the best hand feel possible. Printing custom work for organizations, businesses, and events is the backbone of Jupmode. If you need custom shirts made send us an email to info@jupmode.com, we'd love to help!

How to Submit a Guest Blog Post to AAF Toledo
The ideal length for a post is between 850 and 1,000 words and must not have been previously published.
Come up with a great idea. To be considered, AAFTOL blog topics should be related to advertising, marketing and communications. Write something that you would want to read yourself.
Send a proposal. Send a brief proposal to director@aaftoledo.org. Please do not send the full article. Keep it brief: a tentative headline; two or three sentences explaining what the blog will be about; and one sentence saying why you are qualified to write it. Based on this proposal AAFTOL will let you know within three business days whether to submit the article.
Write with the reader in mind. Writing for the web is different from writing for print. The best way to organize the piece is to start with a brief set-up that hooks the reader. Then organize the rest in segments. Assume the reader is busy and has a short attention span. Short paragraphs and headings within the article make it easier to read.
Include a brief bio at the top. Your name; the name of your company (with a link to your website); and if you've written a book relevant to the article, the title of that book with a link to the Amazon page or to your website if the book is available for sale there. If you tweet, please indicate that, and include a link to your Twitter profile page.
Submit the completed article. Please submit your final version by pasting into the body of an e-mail, or attach it as a Microsoft word document. Your submission will be reviewed by AAFTOL editorial board. If we have any questions, comments or concerns, we will contact you.
What happens next? AAFTOL will acknowledge receipt of the blog within 24 hours, and let you know within a week whether it has been accepted for publication. If it is, AAFTOL reserves the right to edit the article, including changes in the text, subheads and headline, to improve readability and maximize web traffic.
