Who Am I?

My place of birth is:

Port Clinton, OH

My hobbies are:

Besides attending all of the activities that my 8 year old step daughter is in;  my family loves archery, running with our dog and adventures on the boat.

The last good book I read was:

Freshly Brewed Life by Nicole Johnson, which I was able to hear her speak at the Fabulous Conference this last year and would highly recommend.

My oddest habit is:

I have a habit of thinking my dog can understand the things I am telling her.

Device I couldn't live without:

My Alarm Clock

My greatest accomplishment outside my profession:

Graduating Heidelberg University and being awarded with the Legacy Family Award.  My family is very actively involved with Alumni Relations at Heidelberg.  Our most recent involvement was the live animal lab that was just established and named after my Great Grandfather.

The reason I got into advertising/marketing:

I love the creative side of marketing, and the challenge that comes with it.  It is incredible to see the different ways that organizations use their marketing to create brand awareness.  My first re-branding experience was with Goodwill Industries of Erie, Huron, Ottawa and Sandusky County.  We re-branded the company as "Goodwillsquad" which as been very successful so far and a lot easier to say than "of Erie, Huron, Ottawa and Sandusky County".

Biggest influences on me professionally:

My grandparents and my husband are my biggest influences on me professionally.  My grandparents have been amazing role models throughout my life and haven given me the support I need to succeed.  While my husband gives me motivation each day to achieve my goals.

My greatest unfulfilled ambition is:

Complete my Masters in Business Administration degree with a concentration in Marketing.

When nobody's looking, I like to:

Play "Just Dance" with my 8 year old step daughter.

The one thing I really want the world to know about me:

I am an ambitious woman that loves to motivate others by providing them with the tools and inspiration they need to become the best they can be.

Best thing about being an AAF Toledo member:

It is an amazing organization that gives marketers and advertisers an appealing network to explore their creativity and polish their marketing skills.

Patrick Bruen

2015-2016

AAF Toledo President

Innovation

"The key is not to prioritize what's on your schedule, but to schedule your priorities."

 - Stephen R. Covey

I decided to "borrow" the idea from outgoing president, Aubrey Hornsby, and use a quote to start off each article.

Time is a quantity we cannot get back; how we use that time should be a priority to all of us. At the American Advertising Federation Toledo, we want to ensure that our programs and events will be time well spent. Our goal this year and always is to provide you with educational, social, entertaining and innovative opportunities to help you grow in your career. We want to empower you with the knowledge and the professional network to help you grow here in the Toledo Marketing and Advertising community. We have a tremendous amount of talent and creativity here in Toledo. Come to an event and experience it for yourself!

I want my presidency to focus on innovation. Let's look at how we're doing things and determine how we can do them better. How can we better our lives and our careers by learning from those visionaries among us? But also internal innovation, like how can we as the local AAF, make your member experience better? If you have some suggestions, please reach out to me. I would love your input.

Our focus on innovation this year has led to the rebirth of the Creativity & Innovation Summit. This is going to be a great event! Join us at the Hilton Garden Inn Perrysburg bright and early on Tuesday, November 10, as we promote some of the brightest and best Toledo has to offer with innovative and creative ideas. Learn, grow, network and enjoy some fellowship as we share what some great local talent is bringing to our area and how this is changing our industry for the better.

Thank you for being a part of the 2015-2016 AAF Toledo year. With our amazing membership and Board of Governors working hard to improve your membership experience, we feel this is going to be a great year. Aside from stealing the quote idea from past president Aubrey Hornsby, I'm also stealing his closing line. I look forward to a very successful term. So, let's get everyone involved, let's make a difference, and let's have some fun!

Maumee Film Festival

Calling all filmmakers - we want to see your short film! Register now through July 26, 2015 for a chance to have your short film projected in the beautiful and iconic Maumee Indoor Theater.

We are currently accepting entries for this special event.  Short films submitted in the Short Open Film Challenge and those created during the 48-hour Film Challenge will be screened at the Maumee Film Festival September 19, 2015.

Filmmakers may send a short film created within the past year for viewing in the Short Open Film Challenge. We are currently seeking competitive entries in all genres with films no longer than 8-minutes in length.

Filmmakers can also test their creativity and ability to work under pressure during the 48-Hour Film Challenge in which filmmakers write, shoot, edit and upload a short film within a 48-hour window of time. The film challenge weekend will take place July 31-August 2. Filmmakers will also be given a prop, line of dialogue and genre that they must incorporate into their projects. In addition, at least one scene must be filmed at a Maumee location.

"We're really excited to see what the filmmakers produce," said Lou Mattero, Maumee Uptown Business Association Coordinator. "This is a wonderful opportunity for filmmakers to show their work on the big screen, and we're very pleased to provide them the opportunity."

The event is open to students in grades 7-12 as well as and college and adult filmmakers. Filmmakers may participate in both film challenges for a chance to win cash prizes.

For more information, a complete list of rules and guidelines and to register, please visit online: www.maumeefilmfestival.com.
