As our Jewish JABBERS embark on this, the holiest week of the year, we wish happiness, prosperity and health in the new year. As you dip your apple in honey, think of all the people who have made your life sweet. May you have a meaningful week of introspection and an easy fast on Yom Kippur. There's nothing more exciting than a new beginning and a new year.
And don't we know it! With less than one month until our 5th anniversary extravaganza, the excitement of gathering our community and the anticipation of new beginnings is top of mind ... and by new beginnings, this week we mean new skin cells. So pour yourself a glass of Manischewitz (it is a holiday, after all), and read on for more about our official facial findings, Rosh Hashana-inspired recipes and a whole lot JABBING.
L'Shanah Tovah and Happy JABBING!
~ Team JAB

A Tower of Hope From Team JAB
It's a sight for sore eyes. One World Trade Center rises out of Lower Manhattan like a phoenix from the ashes, a defiant 1,776 ft tall. This September 11th, as we share our stories of that fateful day 12 years ago and remember those that were lost, let us also share in the rebirth of an icon and admire the resilience of the American spirit. We will never forget.

Tired of Being TiredFor months I have been exhausted all the time. I stay in bed for days on end. I have consulted with a GP and a neurologist who advise me that I am depressed. This is extremely frustrating as the only thing I am depressed about is sleeping all the time. I have been taking the anti-depressants prescribed with no positive results. I am in my mid-sixties, but am otherwise healthy and active ... at least I used to be! If you or someone you know has suffered from this, please contact me. Also, I have been resisting, but I will see a psychiatrist if you have one to recommend for my situation. I am in Ft. Lauderdale and carry AvMed (Medicare) insurance. Thanks!

Fresh Faced for the Fête
We're putting on our best face for our upcoming fête, so we reached out to Global Chief Creative Officer Cornelia Zicu at Elizabeth Arden Red Door Spa for exclusive, expert aesthetic advice. With four weeks to go before the JAB 5th anniversary celebration, you have just enough time to reveal a new, glowing complexion.
- Always protect skin from the sun, even if the weather is chilly or cloudy. SPF 30 or higher is a must.
- Never go to sleep without removing makeup.
In order to obtain a glowing complexion, it's important to prevent large pores, pigmentation and dehydrations. To achieve this, try a cleanser with AHA and an exfoliator once a week. A good hydration mask is important to use a minimum of once a week. Always use skincare products with strong anti-oxidants, peptides, minerals, fatty acids and vitamins. - Having a good diet is crucial to assure a balanced metabolism. What you put in your body always shows through your skin! Drink at least one glass of water every morning to replace the water lost during sleep. This is important to maintain hydration.
- Wear sunglasses, as skin around the eye area is very delicate and should always be protected. Sunglasses can protect against fine lines that form from squinting in the sun.
- Don't ignore hands or lips, treat them as you would your face. Protect against chapped skin with ultra-moisturizing hand cream and high-quality lip balm.

Reunion ReviewFrom Rachael Hodyno: REPLY My 20th high school reunion is coming up next summer, and I would love to go. My husband is not quite so keen. He makes some fairly logical points about the ability to stay connected by social media and the cost involved in attending, including travel and accommodations. Plus, he thinks I'm being a dork. (How quickly we devolve!) So my question is, do you think this is a cause worth fighting for? Has anyone actually attended their high school reunion and enjoyed it, or is this better left to mid-afternoon daydreams?

Honey-Do Help
From Team JAB Have honey on hand for the high holidays (or just because it's Thursday)? You have the makings of a fabulous (and delicious!) home facial, says JAB Managing Editor and spa-ing specialist Rachael Hodyno. Take a steamy shower to open your pores, gently pat dry, and apply a thin layer of honey taking care to avoid the eyes. Find a quiet spot to relax in for 10 minutes, rinse and apply a hydrating moisturizer. Why is it so good for your skin? Broward-based beekeeper Gary Kareff told us all about honey's antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal properties, and, "since honey is easily absorbed by the skin, it add moisture to it." Sweet!

The Sweet LifeWhen JAB Sales Executive Lisa Moses brought this recipe for a flourless honey-almond cake to our attention, we knew we'd struck gelt. This simple and delicious recipe is a great fit for Rosh Hashana or any day. Plus, it's gluten-free ... so all of your friends can, and will, dig in. 1 1/2 cups whole almonds, toasted 4 large eggs, room temperature and separated 1/2 cup honey, plus 2 tablespoons for the topping 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted Preheat oven to 350°F. Coat a 9" springform pan with cooking spray. Line the bottom with parchment paper and spray the paper. Finely grind the whole almonds in a food processor or blender (yields approximately 1-3/4 cups). Beat 4 egg yolks, honey, vanilla, baking soda and salt. Add ground almonds. In a separate bowl, beat 4 egg whites until foamy, but not stiff enough to hold peaks. Gently fold egg whites into the nut mixture. Pour batter into the pan and bake 28 minutes or until golden brown. Cool for 10 minutes. Remove the side ring and cool completely. Drizzle top of the cake with honey and sprinkle with sliced almonds just before serving.
