In Boo's Shoes
From Team JAB
Earlier this month, Boo Zamek was a distinguished honoree at Chapman Partnership's 4th Annual Take a Walk in Her Shoes Fashion Show and Luncheon, held at Miami's InterContinental Hotel. The fashion show, produced by C. Madeleine's (Miami's chicest vintage boutique), was nothing short of spectacular, and the fabulous frocks in the crowd did not disappoint. We are so proud of Boo, and we are incredibly grateful for the extraordinary work that Chapman Partnership is doing in South Florida. And, JABBERS, in case you are wondering, Boo wore Luna by Josandra with Donald J. Pliner gold python slingback heels. A

Just My Style
From Rachel Bennis:  REPLY
I am searching for a personal stylist to upgrade my wardrobe from stay-at-home mother to casual chic thirty-something. I would prefer someone associated with a higher-end department store or boutique, anywhere from Ft. Lauderdale to Boca. Thanks!

Hot for Hot Yoga?
From Rebecca Kerster:  REPLY
I would love your opinions on hot yoga. I am considering joining a studio that specializes in it, but it's farther away and less convenient to my lifestyle than the one I go to now. Thanks for your advice!

Straight Talk
From Mayuli Betancourt:  REPLY
I am having our daughters evaluated for braces. So far, I have seen Dr. Samuel Chandy at Gentle Teeth in Pembroke Pines. Does anyone have any experience with this practice, and can recommend him? And I am open to a second opinion ~ if you know a great orthodontist in the Weston/Davie area, please reply! Thanks.

Dancing Queen

Can anyone recommend a dancing school for my 22-month-old? Several in my neighborhood do not take children younger than two. I am in the Parkland/Coral Springs area.

Remembering Bella | December 12, 2002 - May 28, 2013
By Team JAB
Many across South Florida are feeling the loss of Bella Rodriguez-Torres, touched by her courage and by her family's strength and spirituality over the last six years, while she bravely fought rhabdomyocarcoma, an aggressive form of cancer. JABBERS can find updated information on today's services in Miami on JustAskBoo's Facebook page. Mourners are asked to dress in red, for Bella.

A Place to Sit
From Dawn Shelton:  REPLY
My dining room chairs need reupholstering. Can anyone recommend a professional who can recover them with material of my choosing, and who provides a pick-up and delivery service in the East Ft. Lauderdale area? Thanks for your referrals!

Silver Knights Bring Better Days
From Team JAB
We are a community of helpers and do-gooders, which is why we are especially touched by the stories of the winners and nominees of the 2013 Miami Herald Silver Knight Awards. According to Boo Zamek, who served as a judge in the "New Media" category, these determined high school students have a strong vision for a better world and have made a profound difference in their own communities and across the world. We congratulate these young founders, developers, creators and entrepreneurs, and we wish them much success as they continue their extraordinary journeys. You can read about the Miami-Dade winners HERE and the Broward winners HERE. Congratulations, Scholars!

Aloha!
From Winnie Pritchett:  REPLY
We are planning a trip to Hawaii in the next few months with our young-adult children and would love your recommendations on hotels or private homes to rent. All suggestions are welcome. Mahalo!

Capitol Connections
From Mariana Rodriguez:  REPLY
We are planning a summer trip to DC with the kids, ages two, five and eight, to see the museums and monuments. Do you have any suggestions for hotels or apartment rentals? If you can also recommend things to do and see, restaurants and preferred airlines, we would really appreciate it! Thank you!

Staying Put
From Megan Kraeger:  REPLY
My work schedule this summer will only allow me to travel very short distances for vacation. I would like to take my children ages four and seven somewhere that will be fun for them but that will also allow my husband and I to have some quite time alone. If you have any recommendations, I would love to hear from you. Thanks!

On Staycation
From Team JAB

There's no place like home ... not when you live in a tropical paradise, the kind our friends up north were fantasizing about last weekend.  We want to know your favorite local spots to run to when you can't run away (like the luxury hotel balcony facing Lake Boca Raton, pictured). Email us HERE, and your response might be featured in an upcoming issue of JAB Ft. Lauderdale!

Renting in Raleigh
From Meg Enos:  REPLY
My sister is moving to Raleigh in July, and would like to rent a house. If you know of anyone with a four-bedroom home available in Apex or Wake Forest, please reply. Thanks!

Decode the Dress Code
By Team JAB
We know not to wear Black Tie to a Cocktail Attire Recommended event. But what exactly is Snappy Casual?! Read on to discover the most unusual dress codes JABBERS have come across over years of semi-formals, graduation parties, bar mitzvahs, weddings and business events ... what they wore!

Tropical Topics

Heather Geronemus told us about her cousin's Tommy Bahama Formal wedding, a favorite dress code in the Keys. "I went with a maxi dress and flip flops, but literally all of the men wore Tommy Bahama shirts."

Allison Laskowitz was "asked to come to a Southampton soiree in Havana Chic. I wore a bright pink, silk maxi dress, and it looked just right in a sea of colorful frocks and fedora hats."

It's Jean-etic

Elaina Moran of Aspire Catering + Events told us about one of her favorites, a Denim and Diamonds charity gala, where the guests wore ~ as expected ~ a mix of jeans and dressy clothes. "One guest wore old, faded Wranglers with cowboy boots and a tuxedo shirt, cumberbund, jacket and bow tie! It looked great!"

Cathy Keller tells us you can expect at least one person in blue jeans, regardless of the dress code, at a Colorado wedding.

In Theme

Lynne Moore loves the Wear a Tie or Show a Leg dinner party she attended in junior high. "All girls all wore ties and the boys wore shorts ~ in the winter. It was a blast!" She's copied the idea many times over through the years, each time with great success.

Simple Misunderstandings

Rachael Hodyno attended a Snappy Chic Christmas party in Mississippi. "To this day, I have no idea what it means. I wore an adorable 1950s-inspired dress ... and looked like I was in costume among a crowd of dark denim and dressy tops. A failure, but I looked great in pictures."

Angela Martinez attended a spring break cruise in college that introduced her to Smart Casual. "We really didn't know what that meant, so we packed a lot of clothes, just in case. A couple of months later when I sent out the invites for my graduation party, I decided to use the same Smart Casual dress code, thinking it was catchy. Oh my, did it cause a stir! My mother was bombarded with calls about what that meant ... which she couldn't really answer! It became the joke of the party."

Teach Me a Lesson

From Aileen Martinez:  REPLY
After years in sales, I've decided that I want to pursue my interest in teaching at a middle or high school using my BA in psychology. However, I'm having a hard time figuring out the steps to the Florida Alternative Teaching Certificate. If anyone has any information that could point me in the right direction, I'd greatly appreciate it.

Read Through
From Helen Garcia:  REPLY
Does anyone have feedback on the USF Reading Skills and Speed Reading program? The public schools circulate the informational letter each year but I don't know anyone with personal experience. I called the program and was very impressed with what they had to say, so I'd love to hear your thoughts. Your input is appreciated.
