A Note from Boo I am totally schvitzing. Freaking out. Wigging. Losing it. Going nuts. Doing backflips! Why, you ask? Because it's our birthday, of course! And not just a birthday, a milestone. We are FIVE YEARS OLD!

For me, launching and growing JAB has had a lot of parallels to raising a child. It might sound dramatic, but it's true. At first it's itty bitty, with nothing but potential. Little by little you nurture it and infuse it with the things it needs to grow and prosper. And you gather a team to do it, realizing that it really does take a village. Somewhere along the way you blink your eyes, and just like that it's all grown up. You are overcome with nostalgia and pride. You are well aware that this village is comprised of a few components (in this case, Team JAB and all of you JABBERS). And all there is left to do is celebrate!

We launched JAB five years ago with an initial capital investment of only $2,000 and two people. Since then we have grown the business into four South Florida markets, 30,000 JABBERS, and 15 employees.

To celebrate this milestone, we will be hosting a party where we hope to thank each of you in person. We will announce the date and details soon so please stay tuned.

In the meantime, please keep JABBING!

-Boo

The History Lesson
Ivy J.C. Stranahan: Broward's First Teacher, Ft. Lauderdale's First Lady
From Team JAB
March is Women's History Month! To celebrate, each week in March, Team JAB will spotlight an important woman in South Florida history.  Take notes, JABBERS, this may be on the exam.

Ivy Julia Cromartie Stranahan
1881-1971
In 1899, 18-year old Ivy Julia Cromartie arrived in Ft. Lauderdale from Lemon City (now North Miami) to become the growing town's first school teacher. Married to prominent business-owner Frank Stranahan in 1900, they became the pioneering power couple from their home and trading post on the New River, now the Historic Stranahan House Museum. Before and following her husband's death, she earned a reputation as a social and civil activist, serving as president of the state women's suffrage league, successfully lobbying the passage of the Homestead Exemption law, establishing the "Friends of the Seminoles" and advocating before Congress on behalf of the Seminole Indians, and founding the Broward chapters of the Red Cross and the Campfire Girls. She is remembered as "The Mother of Ft. Lauderdale," and resided in Stranahan House until her death in 1971.
