The President's speech on Tuesday inspired Team JAB to offer our own State of the Union address this week, to report the condition of our community and to outline our priorities for the coming year to you, our JABBERS.
The state of our Union is strong and getting stronger. In the five years since its launch, JustAskBoo has built an exclusive {but friendly} network of almost 30,000 JABBERS ~ subscribers who are educated, intelligent and aware, and who know that a personal referral is the best way to find the best of the best in South Florida. To support our community, Team JAB produces a minimum of seven unique newsletters each week across four markets in three counties, all delivered to your inbox just in time for that first cup of coffee. And JABBING works. On the JAB newsletter, you connect each other to attorneys, interior designers, photographers, preschools, vacation homes and washing machines. You even helped one JABBER find a bicycle before the end of the weekend (see Hail to the JABBERS, below).
In the year ahead, JustAskBoo will continue its growth to serve you better. JABBERS, you can expect an enhanced online experience. Team JAB is improving our website and developing a mobile application for your smartphone that will make JABBING faster and easier than ever. We will continue to reach out to you in new ways on Facebook. And JABBERS can expect an enhanced offline experience. This spring, Team JAB will invite you to attend our upcoming JABBERS Nights Out, our exclusive {but friendly} local private events for our subscribers. Keep reading JAB Ft. Lauderdale for details on our jubilee celebration ~ JustAskBoo's Fifth Birthday. It just wouldn't be a party without you, JABBERS. Finally, you can expect enhanced content in our newsletters. Our newest feature, Testimonials, shares our favorite stories on unique connections JABBERS have made through the years. Together, we strive to create new, ever stronger connections with you.
Have a great President's Day Weekend, and Happy JABBING!

If the Walls Could Talk at the Hollywood Beach Hotel
From Marcella Auerbach: REPLY You might know the Hollywood Beach Hotel as an elegant vacation resort, but since the 1920s, the property has also served as a WWII training center, the Florida Bible College, and a series of timeshares and condos. Woven through intimate written word and private conversations, the short stories in Room 732 explore life and culture over the last century as its characters experience the emotions of war, faith, death, intimacy, and marriage. Visit with author Merle Saferstein on February 19th at Temple Beth Israel in Sunrise for an author talk and book signing. For more details and to RSVP, click HERE.*

Dreams for Daddy
From Rachael Hodyno: REPLY
I think my father would be perfect for professional voice-over work. He was a radio and television personality in the 1950s and 60s, and I think this would be a wonderful activity to pursue now that he's semi-retired. Does anyone have any experience in this field? I would love to know what's involved so that I can gather the information and present it to him as a gift. Thanks for your help!

Presidential Detail
From Team JAB
In preparation for Presidents' Day this weekend, brush up on your history with the help of these Presidential fun facts collected by the Huffington Post. - Washington's teeth weren't wooden. Contrary to popular belief, the country's first president had dentures made of gold, ivory, lead, and animal teeth.
- John Quincy Adams regularly skinny-dipped In The Potomac. Adams was known for his early morning dips in D.C.'s main waterway, always in the nude.
- McKinley was tech-savvy. William McKinley was the first presidential
candidate to campaign using the telephone. - Hoover spoke Chinese. Herbert Hoover moved his family to China before becoming President, and he and his wife learned to speak Mandarin Chinese fluently. They would speak the language around the White House to prevent others from understanding them.
- Ford was a fashion model. In the 1940s Gerald Ford did a bit of modeling and even posed on the cover of Cosmopolitan.

IVF Treatment After a couple of failed IVF attempts with our local fertility doctor, my husband and I are considering going to the Colorado Center for Reproductive Medicine to see Dr. Schoolcraft. Before we incur the expense of another IVF cycle and travel expenses, I would love to hear if anyone has been to the CCRM and what their experience was like. Thanks!

Alaskan Adventure This summer, we are taking a cruise to Alaska. I would like to do some of the popular activities without booking them through the cruise. I am specifically interested in going dog sledding and a taking trip to see a glacier either by helicopter or small plane. If you have any recommendations for tour companies or other suggestions, I would appreciate you sharing them with me. Thank you!

JAB's Favorite Recipes
Love Team JAB
We could never forget today is Valentine's Day! And like all great Valentines, we bear a gift of chocolate for our sweethearts ... this heavenly chocolate mousse recipe from Shannon Cane Castrec, chef at South Florida favorite, Frenchies American Diner.
Ingredients
7 ounces dark chocolate, chopped
6 eggs, separated, room temperature
2/3 cup sugar
Whipped cream, optional
 |
|
Place a pot 1/3 full of water over medium heat. Put the chopped chocolate in a large stainless steel bowl and place on top of pot. Stir with a rubber spatula until chocolate is melted. Remove bowl with chocolate and whisk in the six yolks. Set aside. Place egg whites in a bowl of a stand mixer fit with the whisk attachment. Beat whites at medium speed until they reach soft peaks and with motor running, add sugar. Increase speed to medium-high and beat until whites are glossy, around two minutes. Place 1/3 of the whites on top of the chocolate and fold on using a rubber spatula. This lightens the chocolate to make the rest of the folding easier. Fold in the remaining whites and divide into glasses of your choice. Chill for at least one hour before serving. Top with whipped cream, if using.
