Can you feel the chill in the morning air? For those of us resolved to exercise in 2013, it's inspiration to get outside and get moving! There will be time enough for the elliptical trainer come summer ~ for now we relish the fresh air in our lungs and (relatively) sweat-free brows as we feel our bodies stretch and strengthen beneath us. And while JABBERS engage in any number of outdoor activities we highly recommend a  tried and true basic: walking. It may not have the cachet of paddle-board yoga, but it's easy, safe and FREE - like JustAskBoo!

In addition to exercising the body, a walk also helps you exercise the mind. After all, it was on just such a walk, surrounded by palms and the occasional seagrape in bloom, that we conceived of some great new features for our community of subscribers: Exclusive to JAB Ft. Lauderdale, we've teamed up with an expert professional organizer to help our readers tackle their household problem areas.  On Facebook, Hail to the JABBERS Fridays invites you to end your week graciously, thanking the JABBERS that recommended your dermatologist to you or sold you a set of kettle bells. The JAB Treasure Chest database of referrals is set to launch. And let's not forget a very special 5th birthday coming up ... ours!

Have a healthy week and Happy JABBING!

My Inner Artist
From Portia Boss:  REPLY
I get such joy out of painting. Does anyone know of a local artists' community or club where I can exchange ideas and techniques with others? I am not looking for a class, more of a peer group. I am in northwest Broward, but am willing to travel.

Play It Safe: Teach Your Child to Swim
From Jackie Doyle:  REPLY
As a parent, I know it's scary to think about your child around a pool when they can't swim. But as a swim instructor with over 30 years experience, I know just what it takes to teach them. I guarantee that your little one will learn to swim in five lessons - or you can return for free. In the heated pool at Westminster Academy, I offer group lessons in a 5:1 student to teacher ratio, and private lessons at our pool or yours. I always teach my own lessons, at rates much lower than you'll be able to find elsewhere. To learn more, visit my website HERE.*

JAB's Favorite Recipes
From Team JAB
This weekend's chili cookoff in Pembroke Pines is sold out, but you can still celebrate winter's perfect meal (South Florida style) by digging out your slow cooker and a few simple ingredients. As a bonus, this is a low-calorie (only 287 per serving), low fat (only 3 grams per serving) recipe ~ you won't have to add that extra mile to your morning walk!

Emilie Wernick, JAB Miami South Editor

Emilie's Chili RecipeChicken Corn Chili
Ingredients
1 large onion, chopped
1 pound boneless, skinless chicken breast
2 cups low sodium chicken broth
1 green pepper, seeded and chopped
1 jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped
1-3/4 tsp ground cumin
1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
3/4 tsp salt
1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes with jalapenos, drained
1-1/2 cups frozen corn, thawed
2 cans (15 oz each) cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
2 tablespoons stone-ground cornmeal
Shredded Monterrey Jack cheese

Directions
In a 5- to 6-quart slow cooker, combine onion, chicken, broth, green pepper, jalapeno, 1-1/2 tsp of the cumin, 1/4 tsp of the cayenne and 1/4 tsp of the salt. Cover and cook on high for 4 hours or low for 6 hours.

Shred chicken (do it right in the slow cooker) and add remaining ¼ tsp cumin and cayenne, and the tomatoes, corn and beans. Gently mash some of the beans against the side of the bowl to thicken the chili. Stir in the cornmeal and the remaining ½ tsp salt. Let sit a few minutes to soften the cornmeal. Sprinkle with a little Monterey Jack cheese. Enjoy!
