"Life's most persistent and urgent question is: What are you doing for others?"
-Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

You are, by definition, helpers. As Martin Luther King, Jr. Day and the MLK Day of Service approach, Team JAB is proud to recognize the civic efforts of its community of subscribers. In addition to helping one another, JABBERS are improving our community through our schools and libraries, food banks and shelters. We donate clothing and furniture, manual labor and professional expertise, and sometimes we gather to celebrate our favorite causes, furthering awareness. For JABBERS, Dr. King's call-to-action is not just to ask we are doing for others, it is to question how much more could we be doing.

What better way for our community to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. than to volunteer in official MLK Day of Service opportunities offered throughout in Broward County? You will be playing an active role in our only federal holiday observed as a day of service ~ a "day on, not a day off" ~ while honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and his vision of a "Beloved Community". And it is something meaningful to do with the kids while they are out of school (again!) for the long-weekend.

Have a great week and Happy JABBING!

-Team JAB

JAB's Favorite Recipes
From Team JAB
The commitment to local volunteerism of The Junior League of Greater Fort Lauderdale is a year-long venture, extending far beyond the MLK Day of Service.   This week's recipe is reprinted for your pleasure and with their permission, from their cookbook, Paradise Served.

Pretty in Peach Cobbler
3/4 cup + 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 cup water
3 cup peeled peach chunks
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 cup all-purpose flour
1-1/2 teaspoon baking power
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup milk
1/4 cup (1/2 stick) butter, softened
1 tablespoon sugar
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees. Combine 1/4 cup granulated sugar, the brown sugar, cornstarch and water in a saucepan and mix well. Cook over medium heat until thickened, stirring constantly.

Combine the peaches with the lemon juice in a bowl. Spoon into a 2-quart baking dish. Add the cornstarch mixture and stir to coat.

Sift together the flour, 1/2 cup granulated sugar, the baking powder and salt in a bowl. Add the milk and butter and beat until smooth. Spoon over the peaches. Sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar and the nutmeg. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes. Serve warm.  Makes 8 to 10 servings. Enjoy!

Click HERE to purchase a copy of the cookbook, and to support this outstanding group of women committed to volunteerism.
