 | Santa gets it. |
Dear JABBERS: This week's message comes to you from Deerfield Beach, where at least one member of Team JAB is digging her toes in the sand and desperately trying to remember the attraction of a white Christmas. The snowbirds sunning themselves around me get it ~ our seasonal neighbors have already landed, shedding down jackets and wool scarves just in time for the holidays, to welcome the new year under our warm, blue skies. It's not the snow that makes the holiday. It's the spirit.
South Floridians are teeming with the spirit of caring, helping, warmth and family. 2012 has presented no shortage of suffering. Faced with these trials, I have watched our friends, family and neighbors (near and far) donate their time, money and energy. In times of loss, we turn to each other for comfort and support. With music and lights, its traditions of gathering, giving and charity, the holidays amplify that spirit to a fever pitch. As we head into 2013, this JABBER gets it: People are good.
This is our final newsletter for the year. We look forward to continuing to build our community with you good people on January 3rd.
(And JABBERS, if you really do miss that frightful weather, a local ice skating rink makes it "snow" every weekend and will give you an occasion to wear that cashmere sweater you couldn't resist at Nordstrom.)
-Happy Holidays! Team JAB

THANK YOU, JABBERS! From Anonymous

I received that advice, a great deal of empathy and encouragement, and solid recommendations for local specialists ... just in case. I would like to thank the 37 JABBERS out there who were kind enough to share their wisdom and experience with me.

Helping Our Children
From Team JAB Our hearts and prayers go out to the families and friends of those whose lives were lost at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. We struggle to find the right words to use in speaking with our children about this senseless tragedy, and it helps to remember the words of the beloved TV icon, Mister Rogers:
"When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, 'Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.' To this day especially in times of "disaster," I remember my mother's words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers - so many caring people in this world."
For guidance on how to help your children cope with the aftermath of this tragedy, click HERE to be directed to Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C. For different ways to help those affected, click HERE, HERE and HERE. At JustAskBoo, we join in solidarity with the grieving community of Newtown, Connecticut and pray that they find the strength and consolation necessary to get through this very difficult time.

JAB's Favorite Holiday Recipes
From Team JAB
Also try this recipe with dark, milk and white chocolate, then mix batches for the perfect balance of sweet, salty, nutty and crunchy. Happy baking!
Boo Zamek, JAB Founder and President
Holiday "Spiders"
Ingredients
2 bags of butterscotch morsels
1 can of salted cocktail peanuts
1 can of Chinese chow mein noodles (not the tall can, the medium size one)
Wax paper
Directions
Use a double-boiler to melt down the morsels, lowering the heat to a simmer once the water boils. Stir until the lumps disappear, the butterscotch should be smooth. Mix in the peanuts. Gently fold in the noodles and try not to break them! Using a rubber spatula or spoon or your hand ~ whatever works best for you ~ form the "little spiders", about 1/3-1/4 the size of your fist, on a wax paper-lined cookie sheet. Cool in the fridge over night.
