Team JAB in the pool garden
at The Surf Club
Dear JABBERS: Team JAB enjoyed an offline meeting this past week, over coffee and pastries in the private dining room of an oceanfront country club in Surfside.  Boo filled us in on what an exciting year 2013 promises to be, and we at JustAskBoo look forward to sharing the adventure with each of you in the new year.

After a few solid hours of strategic planning, we got down to more enjoyable business over lunch, that prime JABBING time when the stories are told, advice is sought and the recommendations exchanged. The hot topic? Conflicting holiday traditions. From decorating the Hanukkah bush to re-labeling all gifts "From Santa", JABBERS ~ Team JAB included ~ negotiate and compromise their way through December, challenging the cultural, religious and generational differences that define us as South Floridians.  It's work but we JAB our way through it, creating our own unique family traditions along the way.  And despite the challenges, we come away with warm hearts, a trash bag full of wrapping paper, and maybe a new recipe or two. So JABBERS, whatever your traditions are, may your holidays be merry and bright, full of love, laughter and a little creativity.

We Hope You are Having a De-LIGHT-ful Time!
From Team JAB
JABBERS, we hope you have been enjoying the Festival of Lights and the traditions that commemorate the ancient story of Hanukkah. We wish you laughter and latkes this holiday season!

Memory Keeper
From Angie Puentes-Leon:  REPLY
I need your advice. I want to preserve my daughter's baptism gown and other family heirlooms, but I don't want to do it the way wedding gowns are saved. A number of people have suggested that I wrap the clothing in blue tissue paper, however, all archival boxes I have found contain white, acid-free tissue paper. Can you recommend how to store these types of items to prevent yellowing? Your feedback is must appreciated!

LicenseOrange You Glad Your Vote Counts?

From Team JAB

The presidential election is not the only time Floridians' votes count. Now through tomorrow, December 14, Florida drivers can weigh in on their favorite of four newly designed license plates on a new website set up by the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles. With a new font, cleaner look and, most importantly, more character combinations, the new 2014 plates will have Florida drivers headed in the right direction. Vote carefully HERE ... there will not be a recount!

Spinning Wheels

From Cathy Agosti:  REPLY
I am determined to exercise at home and am searching for a pre-owned stationary bicycle. If you are selling one or know someone who is, please contact me!

JAB's Favorite Holiday Recipes

From Team JAB

Let Santa enjoy his sugar cookies, these chewy delights are just for you!  Happy baking!

Rachael Hodyno, JAB Editor

This family favorite is the best present my mother-in-law ever gave me, still my go-to recipe for holiday parties and bake sales after all these years.

Christmas Chinese Chews

Ingredients

3/4 cup of unsalted butter

3 tbsp white sugar

1-1/2 cups flour

2 eggs

1-1/2 cups brown sugar

1 cup shredded coconut

1 cup chopped walnuts

1 tsp vanilla

1/2 tsp salt

Directions
Preheat oven to 375. Cream butter and white sugar, then blend in flour.  Mixture will be crumbly. Pat out onto a greased 10" x 12" pan. Bake for 15 minutes. Cool in pan.

Reduce oven temperature to 350. Beat eggs, and combine with brown sugar.  Add coconut, walnuts, vanilla and salt and mix.  Spread mixture over the cooled, baked layer.  Return to oven for 25 minutes.  Cool in pan.

Sprinkle with confectioners sugar (I sift) and cut into bite-sized squares.
