Howell Conference & Nature Center Press Release
Spring Into Summer Event Kicks Off Nature Center's Annual Flower Sale

Howell, MI, April 26, 2013 -The Howell Conference & Nature Center will kick off its Annual Spring Flower Sale with activities for the whole family on Saturday, May 11, 2013 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

In addition to a wide selection of annuals, bedding plants, and hanging baskets, visitors can participate in hourly wildflower walks along the 270-acre property. Guides will also be on hand to lead hourly tours of Livingston County's only zoo, Wild Wonders Wildlife Park.

In honor of Mother's Day, guests can also design a custom hanging basket for Mom or choose among dozens of pre-made hanging baskets. Flowers will continue to be offered for sale during summer business hours until they're sold out.

The Nature Center launched summer hours on April 21, meaning that many of its day-use areas are now open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., including
  • Alexandria's Naturescape, a discovery play area launched in Fall 2012. Funded in Naturescape signpartnership with the Spirit of Alexandria Foundation, the Naturescape is a hands-on and interactive play area designed for children to immerse themselves in nature. The waterfall is a favorite feature, where children float toys, leaves, and occasionally themselves down to a wading pool. The area includes a kid-sized spiderweb for climbing, an enormous sandbox for digging, a stump-jump for...jumping, and lots more secrets to discover. Parents must supervise their children when playing in the Naturescape.
  • the Nature Zone, an indoor, hands-on exploration of the creatures found in a typical box turtle Michigan backyard.
  • Wild Wonders Wildlife Park, where visitors can enjoy a self-paced, self-guided tour of over 60 animals in enclosures designed to reflect their natural habitat. All the creatures in Wild Wonders are there because they're permanently injured--either physically or by acclimation to humans.
  • the Welcome Center, where visitors will find reasonably-priced souvenirs of their visit, as well as books by local artist Michael Glenn Monroe.
May 11 and 12 are also Open Zip and Climbing Tower Days. A limited number of reservations are available to ride the Nature Center's 500-foot zip line for $6 or climb Michigan's tallest outdoor climbing tower for $11. Call 517-546-0249 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily to make a reservation.
