Did you know that Great Horned Owls are the first birds to nest in Michigan? February is the peak of their mating season; the time of year that these mysterious birds make themselves known to each other by calling for mates and defining their territory. By the end of the month, mating pairs will be incubating a clutch of one to four eggs.

That's why this is the perfect time to hear great horned owls "whooing." Howell Conference & Nature Center invites the public to learn about and interact with owls native to Mid-Michigan.

The program begins with a live show with owls from the Nature Center's Wild Wonders Wildlife Park. Then take a walk in into the woods to call in Great Horned and Screech Owls and listen for their replies. The evening finishes with hot chocolate and cookies for all participants.

Owl Nights are being held February 8 and 9, from 7 to 9 p.m. Cost of the program is $8 for adults and $6 for children.

When we're not "whoo-ing," we'll need to be very quiet. That's why this program is recommended for kindergarteners and up.
