Showtime!

I will be planting up three containers during my presentation 'Foliage Fusion' at the Northwest Flower and Garden Show on Thursday February 6th and YOU could win one of the completed designs!

Molbak's has the best selection of containers and plants and is generously donating all the materials for this demonstration. They are also entering all their Rewards members into a drawing for a chance to win one of these three container gardens. Not a member? No problem! You can sign up here. Or you can stop by their booth 702 at the show. Winners will be drawn on Monday February 10th.

I can't tell you yet what color scheme or design the containers will be yet but I can promise you that they will be gorgeous and STUFFED!

Good luck!

 DON'T DO IT!!!

gaura and birch

After bitterly cold temperatures throughout much of the U.S. for the past month I know that gardeners will be itching to get out as soon as the sun shines. There'll be weeds to pull and mushy leaves to scrape away and for many of us February also marks the time to get pruning. Don't get too pruner-happy though. Here are three things you shouldn't prune yet if you live in an area which may still see hard frosts.

  • Russian sage
  • Hardy fuchsia
  • Gaura

Each of these benefits from the old stems being left in place over winter although I will sometimes tidy them up by removing one third. These stems help protect the crown of the plant and act as an insurance policy! The upper buds may be lost but those farther down the branches will remain.

When you are sure there will be no more freezing temperatures it is safe to trim the stems down to the uppermost live bud (or lower down if you prefer).

HAND CRAFTED FOR THE CONSCIOUS GARDENER

While I am the garden designer behind Le Jardinet, my husband Andy is the craftsman. He has been turning unique wooden bowls, cache pots and bud vases for many years but our garden dibbers and row markers have become so popular that we decided it was time to share them with you in our Le jardinet store

Garden dibber

Our  materials are locally sourced and recycled. The wood is either harvested from our own property or within a 50 mile radius and provided by local arborists. By supporting other small businesses in this way we help to build a community of like-minded individuals who care about each other and the environment.

Garden row markers

We invite you to be part of the new generation of conscious gardeners and try our English Garden Dibber and Row Markers; essential tools for the vegetable gardener and seed growers.

What are you doing to celebrate Valentine's Day? Need some inspiration? Rather than a dozen red roses which will have faded within the week, sow some seeds of love.

I cant imagine a garden without sweet peas and Renee's Garden has some of the most beautiful varieties available. Choose from dozens including;

Cheri Amour - an exclusive romantic blend of frilled blooms in pink, rose and lavender
