Transit Drive In Mural

Transit Road has its own new mural depicting the famous Lockport Locks. Transit Drive in's primary screen, at the entrance to the popular evening destination, now has an attractive full-color mural painted by local artist Jeff Watkins.

South Lockport Medical Campus Update
 
Dr. William Capicotto, a specialist in spinal orthopaedic surgery, has opened a Lockport office at 5858 Snyder Drive. Integris Financial Group of Lockport, located at 5860 Snyder Drive, has changed its name to Lockport Investment Management.

Evans Agency

Renovation of the former Key Bank office at 5688 South Transit Road has begun. Evans Agency will occupy the one-story facility, located on the west side of South Transit Road between Aguacates Mexican Restaurant and Dunkin Donuts.

Transit North News is published by the Town of Lockport Economic Development Department in order to keep businesses located on Lockport's Transit Road Corridor informed about business developments and public improvements which may impact their operations. Transit North encompasses the section of NY 78 within Niagara County, from Millersport Highway to the Erie Canal. 

Hampton Inn Project
 
The Town of Pendleton has approved the construction of a new Hampton Inn at 6082 South Transit Road. The 4-story, 46,320 SF hotel will feature 72 guest rooms, and will be located on the west side of NY 78, between Mike Smith Buick and Uncle Bob's Self Storage.
Transit Road Construction
  Road Work Ahead Sign
Mar-Wal Construction Co. Inc will continue work on the relocation of the Transit Road water line until the close of the construction season, with a goal of completing the section from Tonawanda Creek Road to the vicinity of Robinson Road by November. Construction on the section from Robinson Road north to the vicinity of Big Lots Plaza will commence in Spring, 2016.
NOCO Expansion
  
NOCO Energy will demolish its current 1,500 SF convenience store and gas plaza at 6233 South Transit Road, and replace it with a 5,500 SF store and restaurant, including a drive-through. A Tim Horton's Café & Bake Shop will be added plus a diesel gas service and automated car wash.

Town of Lockport, Town of Pendleton and City of Lockport officials hosted a recent Transit North Focus Group session. In addition to officials offering updates on various projects completed and underway along the business corridor, business owners and residents commented on the following:
  • The need for a consistent green strip along South Transit Road
  • Installation of drain pipe and covering over open ditches to create a more aesthetic appearance
  • The need for additional pedestrian lighting, particularly on South Transit Road between One-Eyed Jack's Restaurant and Lockport Outdoor Store
  • Review of speed limits the entire length of South Transit Road
