Yahoo! Begins Phase II
Datacenter Project
The Phase II rendering of the Yahoo! Datacenter Project (above) depicts the full expected site build-out. "Day 1" construction, which is underway now, consists of the full north wing (left) and the two-story Core Operations Building (center) only. "Day 2" construction will complete the center building plus construction of the south wing (right).
Internet giant Yahoo! has begun construction of its Phase II project in the Lockport Industrial Park, which will feature a state of the art Customer Experience Center as well as additional datacenter capacity. The three-building complex will eventually consist of a total of 272,000 SF of datacenter capacity and customer service space. Whereas the northernmost and southernmost buildings will house datacenter operations only, the middle building will host core operations, including network operations and global service in addition to the customer service function and datacenter operations. Mortenson Construction has been selected as general contractor, and preliminary site work has begun on the 13 acre expanse, adjacent to Yahoo's 190,000 SF Phase I datacenter. At the conclusion of "day one" construction, approximately 100 Customer Experience Center employees, currently housed in leased facilities at Uniland Development's Sheridan Meadows complex in Amherst, will be relocated to the Lockport site at 5365 Crown Drive. |
