Yahoo! Begins Phase II
 Datacenter Project

The Phase II rendering of the Yahoo! Datacenter Project (above) depicts the full expected site build-out. "Day 1" construction, which is underway now, consists of the full north wing (left) and the two-story Core Operations Building (center) only. "Day 2" construction will complete the center building plus construction of the south wing (right).

Internet giant Yahoo! has begun construction of its Phase II project in the Lockport Industrial Park, which will feature a state of the art Customer Experience Center as well as additional datacenter capacity. The three-building complex will eventually consist of a total of 272,000 SF of datacenter capacity and customer service space. Whereas the northernmost and southernmost buildings will house datacenter operations only, the middle building will host core operations, including network operations and global service in addition to the customer service function and datacenter operations. Mortenson Construction has been selected as general contractor, and preliminary site work has begun on the 13 acre expanse, adjacent to Yahoo's 190,000 SF Phase I datacenter. At the conclusion of "day one" construction, approximately 100 Customer Experience Center employees, currently housed in leased facilities at Uniland Development's Sheridan Meadows complex in Amherst, will be relocated to the Lockport site at 5365 Crown Drive.

Bison Bag Company, located at 5404 Crown Drive, has agreed to purchase an additional 1.5 acre parcel in the Lockport Industrial Park in order to construct a 50,000 SF addition to its existing manufacturing complex. Bison Bag, which opened a 22,500 SF facility in 1998 for its fillable plastic imprint business, constructed a 22,500 SF addition in 2003. Situated just north of the Yahoo! Datacenter Complex, Bison Bag expects to increase employment from the current 65-man workforce to 75 personnel upon completion of its expansion.
