Walmart Begins

Supercenter Construction

Walmart has begun construction of its new 185,209 square foot supercenter on Transit Road at the site of the former Lockport Mall. The Super Walmart will replace the current 128,000 square foot facility located at 5789 South Transit Road. The BonTon store, which had been an anchor store to the former mall, has recently received both an interior and exterior renovation and will remain a fixture at 5735 South Transit Road. Estimated cost of construction for Super Walmart is approximately $8 million; the current Walmart has a workforce of about 200 employees.

Hertz Rental Locates

On Transit Road

Hertz Rent-A-Car will renovate the former Lifetime Muffler facility at 5664 South Transit Road and open a car rental business to service the Lockport market. Hertz operates 18 car rental locations in the Erie-Niagara region.

Planet Fitness Selects

Big Lots Plaza

Planet Fitness, one of the country's leading fitness centers with over 500 locations nationwide, has selected Lockport's Big Lots Plaza at 5897 South Transit Road for one of its Western New York locations. Currently, a Planet Fitness outlet operates in West Seneca. Other tenants in the Plaza include Big Lots, Smarty Pants, Fantastic Sam's, Fastenal, Ladies Nails, Sherl's Laundry, Frontier Dental, EG Tax Services and Dollar General.

Lockport Reps To Attend New York National Retail Show

Lockport Town Supervisor Marc Smith and Economic Development Coordinator David Kinyon will attend the New York National Conference, December 9-10. Over 3,000 retailers and developers are expected to attend the trade show and convention, sponsored by the International Council of Shopping Centers. The Town of Lockport representatives will market Transit North and are planning meetings with several nationally prominent retailers about opportunities in the Lockport retail market.
