Planning Meeting for the Blessing of the Firetrucks
Fire5 Saturday, May 14, 11am

Planning for the 9th Annual Blessing of the Firetrucks will kick of on Saturday, May 14, at 11am in the Sacristy. Please join us as we lay the groundwork for another great event!
Rogation Procession
Pentecost Sunday, May 15, 6pm

Celebrate the Spring Rogation with Vox Fidelis on Sunday, May 15, at 6pm.   "Rogation" comes from the Latin "rogare," which means "to ask," and "Rogation Days" are days during which we seek to ask God's mercy and ask for His blessings,
particularly with regard to farming, gardening, and other agricultural pursuits.

Because of this, it is especially appropriate to bless farm and garden implements, so feel free to bring representative equipment to be blessed, placing them by the pulpit. A light reception will follow in the Rectory.

P.S. - If you or someone you know wishes to have farm equipment blessed on the farm, please let Fr. Matt know. He would be happy to bless equipment, seeds, etc.
Evensong & Parish Reception
Trinity Sunday, May 22, 4pm

Join us on Trinity Sunday for Choral Evensong & Benediction at 4pm, followed by a reception in the Parish Hall. We're looking forward to a night of beautiful choral music, Benediction and great fellowship and food.

We hope to see you there!

Mother's Day Pictures

Many thanks to all who made our May Crowning and Mother's Day Breakfast such a great event!
Ascension Day & Convocation Meeting

We were honored to host the Spring meeting of the Burlington Convocation! Our thanks to the ECW for the wonderful reception and to our choir, acolytes, and ushers for a beautiful Mass.
Memorial Day Solemnities
Saturday, May 28, 11am

Come honor those who have given their last full measure of devotion to this our great Nation. Our own Andy Law is the Master of Ceremonies. The Bordentown City Memorial is located at the corner of Farnsworth & Railroad.

Church School Recognition & 1st Holy Communion
May 29, 10am

Join us at the Sung Mass on Sunday, May 29, to thank our Church School Superintendent, Communicator, Teachers, and Kids for another great year, and to witness the first Holy Communion of a group of our children!

Churchyard Ministry

The care of our Churchyard is an important ministry! Not only is it nice to have our grounds looking well kept, but caring for the Churchyard is a big part of caring for the beloved dead buried therein.

We need your help! The Churchyard is mowed once every 7 to 14 days in the spring and summer months. Please consider taking on this vital and fulfilling ministry.

Roofing Project

During our April Vestry meeting, a motion was passed to contract with Trenton Roofing and Siding to repair all the tin roof sections of the Church, Parish House, and Rectory.  The scope of work will include the preparation, repair, and application of Karnak #97 fibered roof coating to the tin roof areas. New gutters and downspouts will be securely installed in these areas.  The existing tin roof covering the outer Sacristy and rear exit area will be removed.  An ice and water shield and a GAF deck armor will be installed as a moisture barrier. GAF Timberline high definition fiberglass shingles will be installed with counter flashing as needed. New gutters and downspouts will be installed, including the air shaft.

The total cost for this roofing project is $5210.00.  This necessary work is possible because of our non-budget Building Fund.  We sincerely thank our parishioners who contribute regularly to the Building Fund.  This is an important way to directly help with the upkeep of our Parish buildings.

This (Past) Week in Church History

May 5, 1525: Frederick III, the elector of Saxony also called "Frederick the Wise," dies. An avid collector of relics and a supporter of modern scholarship (he founded the University of Wittenberg), Frederick protected Martin Luther after the Diet of Worms condemned the reformer.

May 6, 1527: An army of barbarians who had been sent-but were no longer controlled-by Emperor Charles V sacks Rome. Many Protestants interpreted the attack as a divine rebuke, and some Catholics agreed: "We who should have been the salt of the earth decayed until we were good for nothing," wrote Cardinal Cajetan, Luther's adversary. "Everyone is convinced that all this has happened as a judgment of God on the great tyranny and disorders of the papal court."

May 7, 1274: The Second Council of Lyons convenes with the goal of reunifying the Roman and Greek churches. Orthodox delegates agreed to recognize the papal claims and recite the Creed with the filioque clause, but the union was fiercely rejected by the majority of Orthodox clergy and laity fiercely rejected the union.

May 7, 1839: Hymnwriter and pastor Elisha A. Hoffman is born in Pennsylvania. His songs include "I Must Tell Jesus," "Down at the Cross," "Are You Washed in the Blood?" and "Leaning on the Everlasting Arms."

May 8, 1559: The Act of Uniformity receives Queen Elizabeth I's royal assent, reinstating the forms of worship Henry VIII had ordered and mandating the use of the Book of Common Prayer (1552).

May 8, 1895: Roman Catholic archbishop and broadcaster Fulton J. Sheen is born in El Paso, Illinois. With his ABC shows "Life is Worth Living" and the "Bishop Sheen Program," he became the most prominent American Catholic of broadcasting's golden era.

May 8, 1915: Henry McNeal Turner, the first black army chaplain in the United States, dies in Windsor, Ontario, embittered toward America for its racism. Many consider him to be the precursor of black theology for his statement, "God is a Negro."

May 9, 1760: Count Nicholaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf, founder of the Moravian Brethren and a pioneer of ecumenism and mission work, dies in Herrnhut, Germany. By his death the Moravians (which themselves only numbered in the hundreds) had sent out 226 missionaries around the world.

May 9, 1983: Pope John Paul II reverses the Catholic Church's 1633 condemnation of Galileo Galilei's Copernican heliocentric theory of the universe.

Saint of the Week
Ss. Floris & Lauris
Martyrs, 2nd Century

Martyrs with Maximus and Proculus in Illyria. Venerated particularly by the Greeks, Florus and Laurus were twin brothers who were stone masons in the employ of Maximus and Proculus. They Christianized a pagan temple and were drowned in a well as a result.

Grace and peace from God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ. Christ Church is a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey, His Excellency William H. Stokes, Bishop. Our parish reflects the joy found in Anglo-Catholic worship and tradition, taking the joy and strength found at the Altar and bringing it out into the world in service to our neighbours.

In Christ,

Fr. Matt+
