Prayer for Christ Church
Almighty and everliving God, ruler of all things in heaven and earth, hear our prayers for Christ Church Parish. Strengthen the faithful, arouse the  careless, and restore the penitent. Grant us all things necessary for our common life, and bring us all to be of one heart and mind within thy holy Church; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

9/11 Evening Prayer
Tonight, September 11, 7pm, at the Memorial

Join us at the Bordentown 9/11 Memorial (corner of Farnsworth & Railroad) at 7pm on September 11 for a brief service to honor those who died in the attacks of September 11, 2001.

135th Consecration Anniversary
Present Church Building Consecrated on 9/11/1879

In the late 1860's and 70's the people of our parish, recognizing the need for a larger church, and after twelve years of planning and fund raising, demolished its small building and there erected the present brownstone church at a cost of $15,952.37.  "Long may it stand and be a source of blessing to the generations that come after us," said the Rt. Rev. John Scarborough, D.D., fourth bishop of NJ, as he addressed the congregation and consecrated the church on September 11, 1879.  Here is the certificate, which now hangs in the Rectory:
Thirsty Thursdays for Bordentown's Bravest

The Blessing of the Firetrucks Report
A Report from Kate Williamson:

Heat, humidity and thunderstorms did nothing to stop us from hosting our most successful event yet.  Attendance was in excess of 150 people for Mass and the barbecue, sharing great food and fellowship with us and contributed to a record $1000 to go to the Hope Hose Humane and Consolidated fire companies.  We were joined by Bishop William Stokes, Fr. Tinh Hyunh (Doan Tucker's father), State Senator Diane Allen, Assemblyman Troy Singleton, Mayor Joe Malone and Councilman Zig Targonski, and a host of other local leaders.  NBC-10 South Jersey correspondent Cydney Long joined us as well, and brought her two children, who were among our most enthusiastic bouncy castle users.

Once again we had the very generous support of our local businesses, without whom the barbecue and family fun events wouldn't be possible.   As you go around town in the coming weeks, please be  sure to let them know how much we value their support for our ministries.
  • Mary Barnes, Dean Buhrer, Roger Fisher at The HOB Tavern
  • Mike and Sandra Scotto at Jester's Cafe
  • Fatih Gungor at The Farnsworth House
  • The Hlubik Family at Hlubik Farms
  • Tom Dolan at Case Pork Roll
  • Rob Pecht at Bordentown Home for Funerals
  • Colleen Suozzo at Cranbury Golf Club
  • Joel Harris at Italian People's Bakery
  • Melissa Pillik at Mad Splatter
  • Tammy Sedor
We were also blessed beyond measure by the parishioners who volunteered in the initial planning, preparation, coordination and clean up.  Our deepest thanks to all who worked so hard to make th event amazing.

Cranberry Festival

October 4-5

The Cranberry Festival is coming!  It's almost time once again for one of the City's best loved festivals and one of our most successful fundraising events of the year.  Volunteers will be needed to staff the table and to provide baked goods and fudge for sale.  Christ Church bakers and candymakers have a well-earned reputation for having some of the best goodies to be found at the Cranberry Festival, and there are quite a few Festival regulars  who come to our table each year looking for their favorites.  A detailed sheet with tips for bakers and our Christ Church Easy Fudge recipe and sign up sheets are at the table at the rear of the sanctuary, so please let us know if you can help. Please note:  if you're bringing baked goods or fudge, please bring them to the Christ Church table at Farnsworth and West Church Street (in front of the book store) between 9:00 and 10:00 on the morning of the 5th.

Saint of the Week
St. Mercurius
Martyr, 300

Martyred soldier and companions, slain at Lentini, in Sicily. Mercurius and the others were soldiers assigned to escort Christians to their deaths during the persecutions launched by Emperor Diocletian. Converted to Christianity by the heroic example of their prisoners, Mercurius and his troops surrendered themselves up to suffer the same beheading inflicted upon their newfound Christian friends.

Grace and peace from God our Father and our Lord Jesus Christ. Christ Church is a parish of the Episcopal Diocese of New Jersey, His Excellency William H. Stokes, Bishop. Our parish reflects the joy found in Anglo-Catholic worship and tradition, taking the joy and strength found at the Altar and bringing it out into the world in service to our neighbours.

In Christ,
