Soroptimist High Tea Sponsors

Candy Young
Soroptimist President,
Owner of Oak Knoll Montessori

Candy Young, a member of Soroptimist Poway since 1987 passed away on April 4th.  She was our current President, after serving as club Secretary for many years, she became Vice President, then President Elect last year.  She was the owner of Oak Knoll Montessori Pre-School for 33 years. Her motto embodied her sunny disposition and lively nature, referring to her school as "Where learning is a happy, joyous experience".  She always wore a flower in her hair, usually a rose.  She is survived by her nephew Troy and his daughter Emma.  A beautiful and inspirational woman who was truly passionate about her life, profession and the welfare of others.

Arline O'Briant
Soroptimist member, Crafter and loving Grandmother

Arline O'Briant passed away in her home on February 2nd.  Arline with her husband moved to Poway in 1978. Arline was very active in our Poway Soroptimist club and was voted Soroptimist of the Year in 2004. Always a hard worker she volunteered at many of our events including MotorHead Madness, Abraxas Grad Night and always prepared a special photo album for each outgoing President as a momentum of their year.  She had her own business creating cork animal Christmas ornaments. She will be greatly missed by family and two grandchildren Bailey & David. Her motto was - Work Hard, Play Hard and always be Kind.  We were all blessed by her energy, graciousness and love of life.

It's very tough to say good bye.  Sometimes you get that opportunity and can pour out your heart and resolve your past.  Sometimes you don't.  Realize that each day is a gift and be careful how you use it.  I can say that both of these women - Candy and Arline did not go willingly - they never gave up their positive spirit of realizing that each day brought something new and beautiful to their world.  May we all be that lucky.

Sincerely,
Karen Dunn
