Ramadan is upon us and is quickly drawing to a close. During this sacred month of communal and spiritual renewal, Muslims for Progressive Values is embarking upon a unique and exciting project that we think you're going to want to support.
MPV's Literary Zikr project seeks to bring together scholars of progressive Islamic thought with Muslim youth in search of answers to questions of faith, human rights, contemporary social issues, and political governance. Literary Zikr is a website that will provide the academic works of world-renowned and respected scholars of Islam in simple and youth-friendly language.
In this way, we hope to make the hefty academic tomes written by progressive Islamic scholars accessible to a lay and youth audience. A select team of writers will collaborate with our partnered scholars to ensure the message and perspective of their work is preserved as it is rewritten for younger audiences.Thus far, we are proud to announce our collaboration with Professors Abdullahi Ahmed An-Na`im, Scott Siraj Kugle and Amir Hussain.
At the moment we are pursuing several funding options for Literary Zhikr, but Muslims for Progressive Values is a grassroots organization first and foremost, so we are reaching out to our membership and friends to get this project up and running. This is, by far, the biggest project we have tackled to date and, if successful, will yield tangible benefits for all of us.
