Muslims for Progressive Values (MPV) cordially invites you to participate in our 3rd Annual Retreat. This year's theme is "Building a Progressive Muslim Community." The event will take place from Saturday, June 20th to Sunday, June 21st, 2009 at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York.

We welcome all who are willing to respect, listen and learn from one another with an open, non-discriminating heart. MPV strives to create safe spaces for everyone including LGBQT individuals, mixed-faith couples, and people of different religious and sectarian affiliations.

Third Annual National Conference
Join us for a spiritually uplifting and engaging weekend as we explore this year's theme, "Building a Progressive Muslim Community." The retreat will include a variety of skills-building workshops including media engagement, political advocacy, discussions on spirituality, and social activities. Highlights include:
  • Workshop on political advocacy led by Jihad F. Saleh, a Congressional Legislative Assistant in the U.S. House of Representatives;
  • Discussion on grassroots strategies and event planning led by El-Farouk Khaki, noted human rights and refugee attorney;
  • Brainstorming and sharing of community-building ideas with the heads of progressive American affiliates;
  • Hands-on workshop on writing letters to the editor by Pamela Taylor, co-founder of MPV and columnist for the Washington Post / Newsweek feature "On Faith";
  • Screening of the film Sedition, which profiles two young spoken-word artists who grapple with issues of racism and poetry;
  • Lecture on spirituality and social activism led by Kristin Sands, Professor of Islamic Studies; and
  • Dinner and cultural event in downtown New York City.

Registration and Lodging Costs:
$35 Registration Fee
$36 Meals (Saturday and Sunday, excluding Saturday night dinner and cultural event)
$130 Lodging for two nights or $65 Lodging for one night only
