Fr. Bob's Peek at Sunday

June 19, 2016 -12th Sunday in Ordinary Time

"All Are One"

Paul reminds in this Sunday's second reading that all are one in Christ. "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither nor free person, there is not male and female." Sunday would not be the best day to dissolve all gender distinctions, for it's Father's Day, and fathers bring something to family life that cannot be eliminated or reduced. It's remarkable that Jesus had a blessed mother, a divine father and still had St. Joseph, who was pretty important to the whole story.

My own parents were reasonably traditional in their family roles. Mom created the nest, coordinated everything and was super present to everything my sisters and I were up to. Dad was the breadwinner out of the home who would arrive back in time for dinner. He did set some of the boundaries during conflicts as I remember and like many of the dads I knew growing up, his wife scheduled his weekends.

Non-traditional families find creative ways to compensate for the man who isn't there; but for the man who is there, for his spouse and his children, when and how they need him, we can all give thanks for that this weekend. Also, we thank all the men in the parish for the wonderful modeling they do around here, in many respects, but particularly in matters of faith.

Church of the Presentation is a welcoming Catholic community leading people to a growing relationship with Jesus Christ through Word, Worship & Outreach.
