Urban Heroes are passionate about making St. Cloud's Downtown a more vibrant place to live, work and play. They recognize the best of what is happening Downtown and celebrate excellence in Downtown revitalization. The honorees for 2016 are:
LEGACY
Boser Construction / Inventure Properties for their significant investment in The Bank at 501 W. St. Germain Street as an economic catalyst for the local economy, particularly Downtown. AMBASSADORDan, Mark and Nick Barth for the extraordinary passion and vision of how increased Downtown vitality benefits our local economy and quality of life, and whose actions inspire others. CHAMPIONCapital One/Capital One employees for embracing community service projects in our Downtown such as clean up and beautification. Capital One has also been the presenting sponsor of the Winter Nights & Lights Festival for several years. ARTS
United Arts of Central Minnesota / Cindy Hawker for making a significant impact on the community arts scene with the Sculpture Walk St. Cloud. A strong arts community is absolutely essential to the vitality of our core district. It's what defines us and sets us apart. (United Arts is no longer in operation, but certainly deserves recognition)
VISION Mississippi Riverwalk St. Cloud Task Force for collaborating in an effort to open the River to people, allowing our community to enjoy of our our greatest assets -- the Mississippi River -- its abundant and vibrant waterfront. This honor recognizes individuals or groups with extraordinary passion and vision for connecting people with place.

Bowl for Kids' Sake - Fun way to make a BIG difference
This is a Big Brothers Big Sisters annual fundraiser. This season's event will take place on October 7th and 8th at Southway Bowl in St. Cloud, and October 11th, 13th and 14th at Great River Bowl in Sartell. The over-all goal this year is to raise $50,000. This will make it possible to match approximately 40 children with volunteer mentors. There are over 100 children waiting to be matched. REGISTER

Downtown Parking Ramps Lit Up! The City of St. Cloud replaced all of the light bulbs in our ramps to make it look and feel safer. Cameras have also been installed.
United Way Day of Caring Huge Success Over 600 volunteers completed more than 1,783 hours of service with an estimated dollar value to our community of $45,000. Incredible what we can do together.
The St. Cloud Area Chamber of Commerce elected the following members to its board of directors: Christy Gilleland, Gilleland Chevrolet Cadillac; Willie Jett, St. Cloud Area School District 742; and Allison Waggoner, DCI, Inc. They will each serve one 3-year term. David Borgert, St. Cloud Hospital/CentraCare Health, and Jim Gruenke, Mark J. Traut Wells, were re-elected to a second 3-year term. The board of directors also elected the following members to the Executive Committee: Roger Schleper, Premier Real Estate Services, chair; Melinda Vonderahe, Times Media, vice chair; Jason Bernick, Bernick's, past chair; and Neil Franz, Franz Hultgren Evenson, P.A., member-at-large.
