Shout Out
I wanted to take this opportunity to thank and recognize the great work of our St. Cloud Police and Fire Departments -- our friends and our neighbors.  My job with the DTC and involvement as a Rotarian allow me the opportunity to see the work they do, the support they offer and service they provide.  We are fortunate to live in a community like ours.

Truly grateful,
Pegg A.K. Gustafson

Capital One Winter Festival Title Sponsor
We are thrilled to announce that Capital One will, again, be the title sponsor for the Winter Nights & Lights Festival.   Capital One has been a great partner and we're looking forward to continuing this important holiday tradition.

"Capital One is a tremendous supporter of many, many activities throughout the area.  I couldn't be more proud that they will serve as the title sponsor of the WNL Festival and help make future memories for thousands of area residents and visitors," Pegg Gustafson, president and CEO, stated.
Counterfeit $
This is a reminder to always check any cash you receive to see if it is counterfeit or not.  A quick way is to tell is to hold it up to the light and look for the line (security thread) across it.  READ MORE
What is Streetscape?
Stantec has been hired by the City of St. Cloud to update the city's streetscape and urban design plan.  The city's current plan was adopted in 1996.  The DTC is fully engaged in the process, serving on the advisory committee.

"The visual elements of a street, including the road, adjoining buildings, sidewalks, street furniture, trees and open spaces, etc, that combine to form the street's character."

The question we constantly ask as a downtown membership organization, is "What makes a great place?"  The Project for Public Spaces evaluated over 25,000 public spaces around the world and found that successful ones have 4 key qualities:
  1. They are accessible;
  2. People are engaged in activities there;
  3. The space is comfortable and has a good image; and,
  4. It is a sociable place, where people meet and take people when they come to visit.
  5. and we'll add, they are authentic.

Meetings will be held in the near future to get public input.  We hope you will engage in the process.  Is Downtown friendly to pedestrians, bicycles, and automobiles?  Does Downtown have enough green space or gathering spaces?   Watch for meeting notices.

PLACE...

Builds and supports the local economy.

Nurtures and defines community identity.

Fosters frequent and meaning contact.

Draws a diverse population.

Promotes sense of comfort.

Creates improved accessibility.

August Art Crawl - Get In On The Fun!
The August Art Crawl in Downtown is going to be a sizzler?  Generally an open-house-style art exhibit, August features special performances, events, spontaneous gatherings in studios and eateries.

We encourage all of the businesses to come out on the streets to be part of the festivities.  If you have inflatables or music or yoga or other activities that you think would be fun, please contact Ellen Nelson or Julie Mische to get more details.
