The loss of Dr. Earl H. Potter, III, president of SCSU, is a huge tragedy.  He cared deeply about the university, its students and the entire region.

Our sincere condolences to out to the Potter family, the entire campus and the greater St. Cloud community.

What Do YOU Think?
With Gratitude
We are so very grateful to Janet and Tom Grones for their help and donation toward the beautification of Downtown.

Janet and Tom donated almost 100 perennials for around the raised tree rings, along with soil and mulch.  They added sweat equity as well by delivering, carrying and planting.

We are so lucky to have volunteers like Janet and Tom that care so much about the Downtown community.
Committee Volunteers Needed
We will begin planning for our Annual Meeting & Celebration very soon.  If you are interested in helping with the planning, please email Pegg.  We're seeking at least 2 more volunteers to serve on the committee.

The event will take place on Tuesday, October 18th at 4:00-5:30 pm at the Pioneer Place on 5th.
Sculpture Walk
United Arts of Central Minnesota will launch Sculpture Walk St. Cloud on Friday, July 1.  Sculpture Walk St. Cloud is a 1-year outdoor exhibit of 12 temporary and 2 permanent pieces of large-scale sculpture.  Three pieces will be located at Lake George.  Nine new works will wind through Downtown.

The 2016-2017 Sculpture Walk features the work of accomplished artists from the St. Cloud area and across Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota. 55 entries from 26 artists from the Midwest and one from as far away as Miami, Florida were received. United Arts Executive Director Cindy Hawker chaired a selection panel comprised of members from the St. Cloud Arts Commission, the St. Cloud Downtown Council, and the St. Cloud Rotary Club's Parks Foundation members, with collaboration and full support from the City of St. Cloud.

The public will have the opportunity to vote by paper ballot for their favorite sculpture from July 15 through August 12, 2016. The winning artist of the 2016 Public's Choice Award will receive $500. A jury award of $1,000 will also be given to one of the sculptors. Both awards will be announced in late August. Ballots will be available at the Paramount Center for the Arts Gallery, Gallery Saint Germain and at the circulation desk of the St. Cloud Public Library.

A reception for the sculptors will be held on August 12, 2016 from 5:00 - 9:00 PM, during the downtown Summer Art Crawl.

Sculpture Walk St. Cloud is an initiative of United Arts of Central Minnesota in collaboration with the St. Cloud Arts Commission, made possible in part by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Minnesota State and Central Minnesota Arts Boards, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and culture heritage fund.

"Within walking distance from each other, these 14 unique pieces of sculpture bring new energy and interest to the character of downtown St. Cloud," said United Arts' Executive Director Cindy Hawker, "Not everyone will like every sculpture, but everyone will want to see every sculpture.   Some people will like the figurative sculptures; some will be intrigued with the skilled craftsmanship of the art and some will wonder what the colorful abstract pieces are all about. The fun part of the Sculpture Walk is that it not only stretches your muscles, it stretches your imagination."

We will feature a sculpture each week in this weekly newsletter.
