....the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history with at least 50 people dead and 53 more hurt in Orlando, FL. There is never any justification for such unacceptable crimes against humanity. The act is simply heart breaking and must be acknowledged.

Economics of Place -- Place Matters
| Thank you to the City of St. Cloud City Council and City leadership for approving to enter into a professional services agreement with Stantec Consulting Services Inc. to update the Downtown streetscape plan. The current plan was adopted in 1996.
People want to be in a pleasant and safe environment. By creating places places where people feel good, they are more likely to want to stay, to return and to tell others about the experience. The differences between just a regular public space and a great public place can be viscerally felt by people -- a sense of welcome, of belonging, of pleasure and of sharing.
Streetscape is part of placemaking which is about positioning the human experience in everyday life. People are social creatures. Greeting people on a walkable street or chatting with old friends while enjoying a public space are important components of city life. It all contributes to the vibrancy of the human experience and have positive impacts on culture, health and the economy.
"Cities have the capability of providing something for everyone, only because, and only when, they are created by everybody." -- Jane Jacobs
So, we'll be calling on you to engage in the conversation. The process will allow us to capitalize on our local community assets, inspiration, and potential, and it will result in the creation of quality public spaces that contribute to our health, happiness and well being.
Let's just see how powerful our collective vision can be.

Downtown Is...
|
...the heart and soul of every city. It is the gathering place for its people and the physical and aesthetic expression of its collective visions. A downtown is the manifestation of the diversity of the intellectual, cultural, social, business and political consciousness of its people.
