To Benefit the DTC Membership
In today's world, urban management organizations are operating in a complex marketplace underscored by intense competition, reduced funding and ongoing shifts in the economic development landscape.  Downtown leaders need to continually refine their skills to enhance their district's assets and maintain a competitive advantage.

We are very excited that I have been selected to be one of 26 professionals from across the globe chosen to participate in the International Downtown Association (IDA) Leader Fellowship Program. More than 800 applied, which speaks to the caliber of this program.

This IDA Fellowship will use the City of New York as a classroom; participants will travel to various boroughs around NYC and learn strategies and techniques used in creating vibrant downtown areas. The training is done in partnership with Baruch College and leadership development firm Coro.

Coro Fellows Alumni include Diane Feinstein, US Senator; Carlos Menchaca, NY City Council; and Michael Bennet, US Senator.

The Fellowship is a week-long experiential program that will bring together a cohort of IDA professionals from within the urban district management industry. The fellows will learn essential leadership and place management skills, and gain practical tools in the area of economic development, the live-work-play experience, and public-private partnerships.

This Fellowship is an educational opportunity for me to broaden my understanding of place management in the greater downtown community beyond the core area of expertise, and is certain to benefit our organization. Unique connections and relationships will be forged with the members of the fellowship cohort as well.

Grateful and excited,
Pegg A.K. Gustafson

Downtown Marketing Campaign on Hold
One of our roles as a membership organization is to strengthen Downtown's image by showing it as an activity center that features an eclectic mix of offerings.  The DTC coordinated a 6-month cooperative promotional effort in order to offer an affordable option for Downtown businesses to expand their outreach.  The focus of the campaign - the notion of unexpected flavors - speaks to the dynamic assortment of findings, the DNA, that's uniquely Downtown.

After visiting over 100 businesses, we decided to put a HOLD on the Campaign for this year; many had not included the $600 - $900 in their budgets for 2016.

We ask that the 620+ businesses in Downtown that see this as benefiting all of Downtown and your business, include this expense in your budgets for 2017.  We plan to secure commitments again in January and February, with a launch of April - September.
