ROTARY HOSTS SUMMERTIME BY GEORGE!
But, What Is Rotary?
ABOUT ROTARY
Rotary is an opportunity to build lifelong friendships and experience the personal fulfillment of providing volunteer service to others. An organization of business and professional leaders united worldwide, Rotary provides humanitarian service, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations, and builds goodwill and peace in the world.
A BRIEF HISTORY
The world's first service club, Rotary began with the formation of the Rotary Club of Chicago, Illinois, on February 23, 1905. The club was started by a young lawyer, Paul P. Harris, and three of his friends. He wished to recapture the friendly spirit he had felt among business people in the small town where he had grown up. Their weekly meetings "rotated" among their offices, providing the new service club with its name. Today, Rotary flourishes with some 27,000 clubs and 1.2 million men and women as club members, providing community service in virtually every nation of the world.
The Rotary Club of St. Cloud was established on April 27, 1925 by 22 charter members from St. Cloud who labored for two years to establish the organization. The Rotary Club of St. Cloud was the 2007th club formed in the world-which today makes it among the oldest 5% of continuously operating clubs anywhere. SOME FOCUSED EFFORTS By supporting Rotary, you are supporting not only your local community but also some global efforts:
I am a proud member of the St. Cloud Rotary Club. Pegg A.K. Gustafson

Sertoma / SCSU
St. Cloud University's Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders will be receiving extra financial help -- thanks to a grant arranged for in part by the St. Cloud Area Sertoma Club. This SCSU department will be receiving $4250 from the national office of Sertoma, Inc as part of the organization's Community Grant Program. The money will help fund the purchase of a Maico MI 44 middle ear analyzer. This instrument will be one more tool for this nationally accredited program to use in its audiology training programs and comprehensive clinical services in speech language pathology and audiology to St. Cloud and the surrounding area.
Sertoma Community Grants are somewhat rare. Only 21 such grants were awarded last year among the roughly 500 different Sertoma clubs throughout North America. Community Grants may only be given to "affiliates" of local Sertoma Clubs. The St. Cloud club has had an affiliation with SCSU's Communication Sciences and Disorders department for years, based on common interests of the two organizations in helping people with speech and hearing difficulties.
Sertoma is an acronym for SERvice TO MAnkind. The St. Cloud Area Club currently has 63 members, and it holds weekly meetings and periodic fundraising events in an effort to help various other organizations and non-profit entities in our area.

The Stearns History Museum Presents 'Minnesota Homefront, World War II,' a Traveling Exhibit on View from through May 12, 2013
This traveling exhibit explores the accomplishments, sacrifices, disappointments and challenges that have shaped the enduring legacy of Minnesota's Greatest Generation through their stories. This exhibit is on temporary loan from the Minnesota History Center in St. Paul and will be traveling to venues throughout Minnesota.
The Minnesota Historical Society Traveling Exhibits Program has been made possible by the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund through the vote of Minnesotans on November 4, 2008.
Minnesota Dance Ensemble
MDE will hold auditions for their 2013-2014 season on May 19 and August 11, 12-3 pm, at the Paramount Theatre.
Open to dancers ages 18+, the Central Minnesota non-profit's mission is to provide opportunities for dancers in the disciplines of performance, education and advancement within the arts. The company is predominantly modern and jazz based, however dancers trained in various styles are welcome and encouraged to audition. Dancers are asked to prepare a two minute solo as well as a dance resume that includes training and performance experience. Those auditioning will also learn a phrase of choreography and interview with the directors.
This organization is funded, in part, by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Central Minnesota Arts Board, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
