Crescendo Inc. Good to Knows!
January 2013

Greetings!
It struck me as I sat down to write this note that I am still swirling in the beauty and bliss of the San Pedro Volcano and Lake Atitlan in Guatemala. For 10 days in January, I watched the sunrise

behind the volcanoes surrounding Lake Atitlan while participating in a very special yoga and art retreat - a truly magical and inspirational experience.
If you find yourself in need of a refresh (mental, emotional, physical or spiritual), I highly recommend spending time at Villa Sumaya, a yoga retreat nested serenely

on Lake Atitlan. It is one of the most remarkable and refreshing experiences I have ever had.
Upon my return to freezing Minnesota, a friend asked what I brought home from Guatemala. My response was... an open heart (for me and for others), greater awareness and appreciation for taking pause every day and deep, creative inspiration - all GOOD THINGS to start a new year!
I hope you enjoy exploring this edition of Crescendo Inc. Good to Knows! |

"Lisa was outstanding in facilitating the EQ-i/EQ360 training! The class was fast-paced, practical, engaging and highly interactive. She does an excellent job with visual design as well as helpful, real-life activities to incorporate the content - both really helped us retain and integrate the information.
Emotional Intelligence is such an essential leadership capability, absolutely relevant and necessary for the collaborative reality that exists in organizations today. EQ - relational, social and emotional effectiveness - can be developed and will help leaders be more engaging, inspirational and... followed! I highly recommend attending Lisa's certification program if you want to become an EQ practitioner helping leaders and managers have greater impact and success!"

I first discovered Brene Brown by watching her TED talk on vulnerability. More than 7 million people have watched this video. It is fantastic (as is the book!)
 | Daring Greatly |
Every day we experience the uncertainty, risks, and emotional exposure that define what it means to be vulnerable, or to dare greatly. Whether the arena is a new relationship, an important meeting, our creative process, or a difficult family conversation, we must find the courage to walk into vulnerability and engage with our whole hearts.
In Daring Greatly, Dr. Brown challenges everything we think we know about vulnerability. Based on twelve years of research, she argues that vulnerability is not weakness, but rather our clearest path to courage, engagement, and meaningful connection. The book that Dr. Brown's many fans have been waiting for, Daring Greatly will spark a new spirit of truth-and trust-in our organizations, families, schools, and communities.

The Art of Explanation: Making your Ideas, Products, and Services Easier to Understand by Lee LeFever
 | the Art of Explanation |
Are you familiar with Common Craft videos? If not, you should be. These are fantastically simple videos that explain complex topics in about 5 minutes. The Art of Explanation is for business people, educators and influencers who want to improve their explanation skills and start solving explanation problems. You will learn to:
- Plan: Learn explanation basics, what causes them to fail and how to diagnose explanation problems.
