Seasoned grant writers watch for funding opportunities like a cat watches a mouse hole. When an anticipated RFP emerges, they pounce.

 

Before they pounce, however, they prepare. In Part 1 and Part 2 of this series, we detailed the first two steps of preparation: knowing your agency and knowing your needs. In Part 3, we discuss what will help you design and write the grant proposal: knowing your resources.

Awards, events, training opportunities 

GrantProse has scheduled training workshops for spring 2013! Our grant-writing workshops have elicited such evaluation comments as, "Wonderful, practical advice," and "This course was very useful. We were able to ask questions and get real world answers." Last spring, 94% of participants were very satisfied or satisfied with the course overall.

 

Join us! We've scheduled a one-day novice/beginner workshop (4/17), and a two-day workshop for intermediate/advanced participants (5/8-9).

Community Commons has launched CHNA.org, a free online resource to help assess and improve community health and well-being. Designed to assist nonprofits, health departments, and other stakeholders in understanding the needs and assets of their communities, CHNA.org offers tools for conducting needs assessments, creating reports, accessing public data sources, and more. Users can access online tutorials for guidance on using the platform. Community Commons  is an interactive mapping, networking, and learning utility dedicated to the movement toward livable, sustainable communities.

Every 10 years, following release of decennial U.S. Census data, the Housing Assistance Council (HAC) has published a comprehensive assessment of rural poverty and housing conditions in the U.S. The 2012 edition of Taking Stock includes overviews of changing rural demographics, economy, and housing. The $30 report is available from HAC; you can also download a free PDF of the executive summary and table of contents.
